Also, please look at the VIDEO DEMO below to see this beautiful radio in action! And scroll down below to read more! 1946 GE Model 202! The 202 model is rare because it was the only one of this series made of Brown Plaskon. The 200 model was a brown plastic, the 201 a white Plaskon, the 203 was made of wood. Mahagony, and the 205 was made of maple wood. The cabinet is all original and there is only very minor wear. The radio is powered by 6 tubes and has a very capable 5 inch speaker. These models are not often found with the brass / gold tone top vent bezel in such nice condition this radio was well cared for! GE started at a very early stage making radios that had a unique non cookie cutter design and were known for this in the market place. This radio is a perfect example of this design strategy. Please see the VIDEO DEMO below to hear this radio playing! Then scroll down below to see what else makes this radio so unique! As you can see from listening to the VIDEO DEMO , this radio sounds excellent and it brings in stations up and down the dial. There is no hum and. Slipping when moving the tuning knob. The dial light works and receotion and selectivity are very good. These models are rarely found in this good condition. Made in the USA, by General Electric Co. (GE); Bridgeport CT, Syracuse NY. This radio has been electronically serviced. The tubes were tested and 2 weeks tubes were replaced, the tuning and volume controls were cleaned and lubricated to eliminate any scatch noises. A new dial lamp was installed, the radio was polished to a using just a very mild plastic polish and now it looks fabulous and is ready for years of use. The cabinet is in very good condition, however, there is some wear consistent with age such as blemishes and imperfections on the top, bottom, sides, bottom, and back but very difficult to see in normal light and nothing that detracts from the overall look. This radio is perfect for collectors or as a functional display piece to show off in your office or home & will go with any décor! And it would also make a unique gift! You will enjoy listening to it for years to come. And with Christmas just around the corner it would make a great gift for that someone special or even for yourself! General Electric Radios Historical Significance. Have you heard of the saying from Henry Ford regarding the Model-T motor car? Well, radio manufacturers had a similar philosophy for many years. There were some colorful 1930s Catalin models and some other unique and distinctive radios, but by and large radios were just wood finished cabinets. Even the initial production of Bakelite cabinets was primarily wood-toned brown in color. GE began to change that – in the early 1940s; GE was offering its new line of table radios in either a traditional brown Bakelite cabinet or in an ivory-colored version. Then Following World War II, the company began introducing more colors as a marketing tool in its lines of consumer products as well as radios which changed the future dynamic for both consumer products and radios. Singer Doris Day begins a solo career, Al Jolson rerecords his old hits and becomes a superstar to the post-war generation as well, and B. King begins working as a professional musician in Memphis TN! Perry Comos Prisoner of Love and Frank Sinatras Five Minutes More had the #1 and #2 hits songs of the year respectively. Dimension: 12″ in length X 8″ high X 7 in depth. I use plenty of Bubble Wrap, extra padding and double box or use extra box support material. It will be marked Fragile & This side up on the box to make sure it is handled carefully. The radio is fully insured. If there are any problems, please contact me and we can review options.
