The cabinet looks amazing with its alternating multi wood tones. It is a transcontinental automatic tip-touch tuning, with 4 knobs, 5 push buttons, and a. Large 6 inch original Zenith speaker. The plug/cord looks to be a replacement. It sounds excellent and pulls in stations very well without using an external antenna an external antenna improved reception even more and helped to get in shortwave stations at night. I was able to get in stations as far away as Europe and Radio Havana Cuba. (External antenna not included). So dont miss out on this opportunity! Serial Number tag on the bottom shows #S107729. This Zenith is a beauty the RaceTrack Tombstone model is on most collectors bucket list and they are becoming more and more scarce rarely are they found in working condition or with their original finish. These models are highly collectible and sought after for their famous semi-circular light gold dials, Lightning Bolt “Z” pointer, intricate wood detailing, copper chassis, and solid metal escutcheon around the dial and pushbuttons. As their advertising said. Zenith The quality goes in, before the name goes on. Please listen to the video below and then read on for more details on this stunning Zenith! As you can hear, this radio sounds great and gets in many stations. I was even able to get in shortwave stations at nighttime. Stations come in with ease, there is a Hi and Low tone control function as well as pushbuttons which seem to work but I do not know how to set them. This radio was serviced. Tubes were tested and tested OK, the controls were cleaned and lubricated, the chassis was lightly cleaned, the radio was aligned, the cord/plug were replaced with a vintage replacement and the cabinet was polished with a mild wood polish to bring out its natural shine and color of the different wood tones. There is a low volume hum in the background that can be heard when the volume is turned all the way down, or very low, but when stations are tuned in with just a little volume it no longer can be heard. For a radio made in 1938 during the Roosevelt administration it really sounds amazing. The wood and detailing on this model is amazing. Its a nice medium sized tombstone at 11 inches wide and 16 inches tall. It is powered by 5 tubes and has a capable 6 inch original Zenith speaker. It sounds very good with good selectivity and reception considering the technology of when it was made. The Dial light does a very good job of lighting up the beautiful dial scale so you can see all the frequency numbers. The dial needle moves in sync with the tuning knob as designed and it is in good condition as is the dial scale. This Zenith is truly a functional piece of art! Take advantage of this opportunity to own this beautiful classic from Zenith! No small sum for the average American consumer during the middle of the depression. This rare Zenith Tombstone is a good opportunity for a collector to have a true classic in their collection! Zenith Radio Corporation in Chicago, IL. This Tombstone model has the unique gold racetrack dial found in only a few Zenith models. Also seen on the Zenith (5S319, 5S320) and a chair side model (5S339). The four knobs are the original Zenith Z knobs and are in good condition. These knobs control: ON/OFF-Volume; Frequency Tuning; Tone and Automatic/Broadcast/Shortwave settings. With Christmas just around the corner this radio would make a wonderful gift for yourself or someone special also for a decorator looking for that signature piece. Dimension: 12″ in length X 16″ high X 8 in depth. I use plenty of Bubble Wrap, extra padding and double box or use extra box support material. It will be marked Fragile & This side up on the box to make sure it is handled carefully. The radio is fully insured. A small sampling of my feedback.
