We offer Quality Antique Radios. To view our other antique radio auctions, as well as antique radio grill cloth. To add us to your favorites! The dark Walnut cabinet is simply breathtaking. Gorgeous wood grain flows throughout the entire set with an eye catching swirled matched butt grain on the top and front. The’S’ curved corners coupled with the step up top and step out front really put the design of this tombstone in a class all its own. A waterfall top adds to the already elegant look while the intricate cut grill reminds you of the Art Deco period. Jet black trim finishes the cabinet off with the perfect contrast. This rare tombstone radio is sure to be the main topic of conversation no matter which room in the home or office you choose to display it in. The front round dial is quite attractive. Powered by two dial lamps it lights nice and bright with a warm orange glow. It features brown and ivory colors with the FADA name and logo right in the center complete with the music staff and notes. All letters and numbers on the dial are legible and show very little signs of wear. The surrounding brass escutcheon adds a classy touch. All four knobs are in great shape and control the following; tuning (back knob for regular tuning and the front knob is vernier tuning for pinpoint accuracy), band switch, tone control, and on/off & volume. The 1930′s style grill cloth is a fine reproduction featuring a whiskey. Gold color with an Art Deco geometric design. All tubes in the 6 tube chassis were tested with any weak tubes being replaced. All caps, filters, and resistors were checked and replaced as needed. All brittle or bare wiring was replaced or re-insulated. The chassis has been cleaned, lubed, and re-aligned for optimal performance. With the included copper line antenna the radio performs very well. The radio plays with deep rich tone and plenty of volume. The radio is very sensitive to interference. I did notice performance differences in different rooms of the house. In some areas of the house the radio played with a slight background buzz and fuzzy sound and other areas of the house that was eliminated. But still great reception and very listenable with or without the buzz / fuzziness. The Cabinet’s Finish & Restoration Process. Our Radio cabinets undergo a vigorous restoration process. Our goal is to maintain the natural beauty of the wood and grain, while providing a deep luster and shine. We achieve this by removing all the old and worn lacquers and stains. We then sand the cabinet with fine grit pads down to the original bare wood. Nicks, chips, and blemishes are filled and/or blended. Any loose veneer is re-secured. We make sure any filler applied or repairs made are blended nicely and do not detract from the beauty of the set unless otherwise noted. New stains and sealers are applied by hand. We continue by using many coats of Mohawk brand lacquers and toners applied in the same manner as when the radio was originally finished in the factory. We use a nitrocellulose piano lacquer which is applied through a professional HVLP turbine spray system in a climate controlled room. Nitrocellulose lacquer is very thin. We also apply very thin coats. This allows the lacquer to seep into the grain and not cover it up. A fine grit wet sanding follows every third coat along with a polishing process and ending with an Oz glaze rub. Many hours of work are put into the radios, but as you can see, the final outcome is a beautiful, natural looking cabinet with gorgeous luster& shine. Our radios are a great piece of history that come to you ready to proudly display, as well as listen to, in any room of the home or office. 13 1/4″W x 17 1/2″H x 8 3/4D.
