Strong stations come in great – father stations come in OK too – just not as clear. The Zenith Y723 was the next step in Zeniths steady evolution toward true high fidelity sound. There are some very minor imperfections and blemishes on the front, top, sides, and bottom but nothing that detracts from the overall look and very hard to see in normal light. The case as close to museum quality as you can get. This radio has been serviced electronically. The electronics were gone through with all tubes being checked and testing strong, the chassis was cleaned, and the controls were cleaned and lubricated. The case has been polished meticulously and now has a mirror shine!! The cord is pliable with no cracks. The original label remains mostly intact on the bottom. They either had a 723 or 724 model designation with an H, Y, or T in front. The sound was truly something impressive compared to its predecessors and the competition. They came in many variations over the years. Colors such as Brown, Grey, Grey/White, Brown/Ivory, Green, and solid white. Some had metal bezels, while others were body color. Some had carrying handles. The pointers were either metal with a gold finish, or plastic with the color the same as the cabinet. Grilles had either cloth with a metal mesh, or were a mesh plastic. They are all well known by collectors and sought after for excellent FM reception and very good tone and sound quality. They represented for Zenith the next level of radio sound evolution as they moved ever closer to high fidelity! This particular Y723 from 1956 has the less common Brown / Ivory color combination. The Zenith Y723 is a very solid, long lasting radio with amazing sound. Perfect for collectors or as a functional display piece to show off in your office or home & will go with any décor! This Zenith Y723s cabinet is in nearly flawless condition with very minor wear – The beautiful brown walnut color case shines like new. The ivory plastic mesh grille looks great (it was cleaned, and looks great). It has a large off center round Airplane dial with dark brown plastic dial pointer that matches the cabinet color it is in excellent condition, as are the knobs. The Z on the Zenith crest on the grilles upper right corner is open and highlights the white color of the grille It has large numerals for easy identification of the station frequencies. There are 3 knobs. The center is for on/off/volume. The right is for tuning, and the left is for band control. It is interesting to think that this very radio may have broadcast such 1956 historical events as Fidel Castro starting the Cuban revolution, Warsaw Pact countrys invading Hungary during the Cold War, and Elvis Presley recording his first hit Heartbreak Hotel!
