This is a six tube radio that allows it to receive stations very well with good clear sound and volume without the need for an external antenna. The Bakelite case is a mottled walnut brown color with a red light that glows when the radio is on. The dial also slightly lights in the dark. The case has no cracks, chips or odors and it has a functional top handle that folds down flat with the top. The brass front has been shined and then sprayed with clear lacquer to stop further oxidation. I have thoroughly washed and buffed the case and it looks remarkable for a 72 year old. The knobs match and are original. A new cardboard back has been fabricated with a label that shows the location of the tubes. The inside chassis has been thoroughly cleaned; the volume control de-oxidized for smooth volume changes and all moving controls lubricated. I have replaced all old electrolytic and film capacitors in the chassis with new modern capacitors and have checked all resistors. Brittle or bare wiring has been replaced or re-insulated. All 6 easily found tubes have been tested and questionable tubes have been replaced. The line cord has been replaced with a new 18 gauge cord with molded, polarized plug. The speaker is in great condition. The radio has been successfully bench tested for days and should continue to play loud and clear for many more years. The radio size is approximately 6¾ high by 12¾ wide by 6 deep and weighs about 6½ pounds. Or model 6D015 Consoltone (6DO15Z) Ch= 6C05 (6C05Z) Walnut, Zenith Radio Corp. Indicates an undefined number of chassis variations, where one or more more tubes of the basic complement were replaced. Just after WW2 there was some material shortage. Zenith had to modify the basic model to accept available alternative tube types. Hence Octal, Lock-in and 7pin miniature types had to be mutually adapted by changing the sockets. Such factory modified chassis and radio models got the. Zenith also recommended these alterations for service. Such models maintained of course the initial name without Z. All such numerous variant combinations can only be distinguished by close examination, but. Not by just a view. A single chassis may contain octal, lock-in, and miniature buttom tubes. If an original tube is replaced with an alternate, the socket must also be replaced. Listed above is the basic tube complement.
