To view our other auctions including additional restored antique radios, grill cloth, and supplies. Here we have a seldom seen 1940 Motorola model 50-X-1 table radio. It is obvious that this little pre war beauty was well cared for over the years, and probably rarely used, as everything is original and in outstanding condition. It features a stunning marbleized brown Bakelite cabinet, unique D shape dial, protruding grill fins, great Art Deco appeal, original back with built in loop antenna and excellent performance. The brown Bakelite cabinet is quite the looker. Its sleek curves and protruding grill fins remind you of the streamline designs so popular from that era. It boasts a dark chocolate brown color with an attractive swirled marbling throughout. I have meticulously polished the cabinet to improve its original luster and shine. The cabinet does not have any chips or cracks and the only imperfections I can find are some very fine scratches on top that are only visible under very close inspection and extreme lighting. As you can see from the pictures, nothing that detracts from the beauty of the set. The unique D shaped dial is quite attractive. It illuminates with a new dial lamp and features a silver and gold background with black letters and numbers. Everything on the dial is legible and shows virtually no signs of wear. A red airplane style pointer is positioned left center along with the Motorola logo. The dial cover is clear and free from any chips, breaks or cracks. Both bullet style knobs are in perfect shape and control on/off & volume and tuning. All tubes in the 5 tube chassis were tested with any weak tubes being replaced. All caps, filters, and resistors were checked and replaced as needed. All brittle or bare wiring was replaced or re-insulated. A new, safe power cord was installed. The chassis has been cleaned, lubed, and re-aligned for optimal performance. Using just the loop antenna the radio performs very well. Dimensions: 10″ W x 6 1/2 H x 6″ D.
