To view our other auctions including additional restored antique radios, grill cloth, and supplies. Cabinet: The American Walnut cabinet is a real stunner. Beautiful wood grain flows throughout the entire set with an eye catching swirled burl grain gracing the front. It’s rounded corners, coupled with a large intricate cut grill, reminds you of the streamline / Art Deco designs so popular from that era. It all comes together perfectly when powered up and the back lit dial glows along with a bright green magic tuning eye. What a spectacular sight! This rare beauty is sure to be the main attraction no matter which room in the home or office you choose to display it in. Dial: The back lit dial is quite the head turner. It is illuminated by two dial lamps and features a black background with ivory numbers and letters. When powered up the dial lights nice and bright with a warm orange glow. To the top left of the dial is a new magic tuning eye. It lights a nice and bright emerald green and opens and closes indicating signal strength. The tuning eye and dial are both surrounded by elegant brass escutcheons. The dial glass is clear and free from any chips, breaks or cracks. All three knobs are in great shape and control on/off & volume, band switch and tuning. Grill Cloth: The 1930s style grill cloth is a fine reproduction featuring a whiskey gold color with an Art Deco geometric design. Chassis: All tubes in the 6 (including eye) tube chassis were tested with any weak tubes being replaced. All caps, filters, and resistors were checked and replaced as needed. All brittle or bare wiring was replaced or re-insulated. The chassis has been cleaned, lubed, and re-aligned for optimal performance. With the included copper line antenna the radio performs exceptionally well. The radio produces great tone and room filling volume. The Cabinets Finish and Restoration Process: Our Radio cabinets undergo a vigorous restoration process. Our goal is to maintain the natural beauty of the wood and grain, while providing a deep luster and shine. We achieve this by removing all the old and worn lacquers and stains. We then sand the cabinet with fine grit pads down to the original bare wood. Nicks, chips, and blemishes are filled and/or blended. Any loose veneer is re-secured. We make sure any filler applied or repairs made are blended nicely and do not detract from the beauty of the set unless otherwise noted. New stains and sealers are applied by hand. We continue by using many coats of Mohawk brand lacquers and toners applied in the same manner as when the radio was originally finished in the factory. We use a nitrocellulose piano lacquer which is applied through a professional HVLP turbine spray system in a climate controlled room. Nitrocellulose lacquer is very thin. We also apply very thin coats. This allows the lacquer to seep into the grain and not cover it up. A fine grit wet sanding follows every third coat along with a polishing process and ending with an Oz glaze rub. Many hours of work are put into the radios, but as you can see, the final outcome is a beautiful, natural looking cabinet with gorgeous luster& shine. Our radios are a great piece of history that come to you ready to proudly display, as well as listen to, in any room of the home or office. Dimensions: 17 1/2″ W x 10 1/4 H x 6 1/2″ D.
