To view our other auctions including additional restored antique radios, grill cloth, and supplies. Here’s one you don’t see very often. Cabinet: The American Walnut cabinet is a real eye catcher. The stylish Art Deco design, so popular from this era, is surly evident in this beauty. Gorgeous wood grain flows throughout the entire cabinet with striped inlays and an elegant burl grain highlighting the large wrap around grill. As if the radio isn’t stunning enough, power her up and the colorful slide rule dial comes to life along with a bright green magic tuning eye. What a fantastic sight! Jet black trim finishes the cabinet off perfectly with just the right contrast. This seldom seen table radio is sure to be a crowd pleaser no matter which room in the home or office you choose to display it in. Dial: The lighted slide rule dial is just spectacular. It features an array of colors from yellow and green to black and red. Located directly in the center of the dial is a bright green magic tuning eye which opens and closes with station sensitivity. All letters and numbers on the dial are legible and show virtually no signs of wear. The surrounding bakelite escutcheon features a brown white marble swirl which looks great. All five pushbuttons are in great shape, fully functional and retain their original station call letters. If you choose to use the pushbutton tuning, you will need to set to your local stations. All three knobs are perfect and control on/off & volume, band switch, and tuning. Grill Cloth: The 1930s style grill cloth is a fine reproduction featuring an antique gold color with a herringbone design. Chassis: All tubes in the 7 tube (including eye) chassis were tested with any weak tubes being replaced. All caps, filters, and resistors were checked and replaced as needed. All brittle or bare wiring was replaced or re-insulated. The chassis has been cleaned, lubed, and re-aligned for optimal performance. The Cabinets Finish and Restoration Process: Our Radio cabinets undergo a vigorous restoration process. Our goal is to maintain the natural beauty of the wood and grain, while providing a deep luster and shine. We achieve this by removing all the old and worn lacquers and stains. We then sand the cabinet with fine grit pads down to the original bare wood. Nicks, chips, and blemishes are filled and/or blended. Any loose veneer is re-secured. We make sure any filler applied or repairs made are blended nicely and do not detract from the beauty of the set unless otherwise noted. New stains and sealers are applied by hand. We continue by using many coats of Mohawk brand lacquers and toners applied in the same manner as when the radio was originally finished in the factory. We use a nitrocellulose piano lacquer which is applied through a professional HVLP turbine spray system in a climate controlled room. Nitrocellulose lacquer is very thin. We also apply very thin coats. This allows the lacquer to seep into the grain and not cover it up. A fine grit wet sanding follows every third coat along with a polishing process and ending with an Oz glaze rub. During the restoration process on this radio a small veneer repair was made on the back right edge of the cabinet. It has been filled, secured and blended and does not detract from the beauty of the set. Many hours of work are put into the radios, but as you can see, the final outcome is a beautiful, natural looking cabinet with gorgeous luster& shine.
