A Quality Antique Radio Makes The Perfect Christmas Gift! – Yes it’s time to start thinking! The dark walnut cabinet is simply stunning. Beautiful wood grain flows throughout the entire set. The radio boasts a design very unique from other table radios with a waterfall top that leads to a slant front and bottom mounted speaker. It is very reminiscent of jukebox styles from the same era. It all comes together magnificently when powered up and the colorful slide rule dial comes to life along with the bright green magic tuning eye. Jet black trim and dark walnut tones finish the cabinet off perfectly. This rare beauty is sure to turn heads no matter which room in the home or office you choose to display it in. The lighted slide rule dial is quite attractive. It features an array of colors from yellow and green to black and red. The top portion of the dial features numerous station call letters while the bottom portion features the dial scales and the arching Crosley logo. As if the dial isnt attractive enough, a bright emerald green magic tuning eye is housed right in the center. What a spectacular sight! The surrounding escutcheon is made from swirling Bakelite and shows minimal normal warping toward the bottom but displays great. All the pushbuttons are functional but will need to be pre set to your local stations if you choose to use them. All three knobs are in great shape and control; on/off & volume, tuning, and band switch. The 1930s style grill cloth is a fine reproduction featuring a classic. Gold color with a herringbone design. The station call letter tabs are also fine reproductions with a black background and white lettering done on heavy card stock for original look and durability. All tubes in the 7 tube (including eye) chassis were tested with any weak tubes being replaced. All caps, filters, and resistors were checked and replaced as needed. All brittle or bare wiring was replaced or re-insulated. The chassis has been cleaned, lubed, and re-aligned for optimal performance. The Cabinets Finish & Restoration Process. Our Radio cabinets undergo a vigorous restoration process. Our goal is to maintain the natural beauty of the wood and grain, while providing a deep luster and shine. We achieve this by removing all the old and worn lacquers and stains. We then sand the cabinet with fine grit pads down to the original bare wood. Nicks, chips, and blemishes are filled and/or blended. Any loose veneer is re-secured. We make sure any filler applied or repairs made are blended nicely and do not detract from the beauty of the set unless otherwise noted. New stains and sealers are applied by hand. We continue by using many coats of Mohawk brand lacquers and toners applied in the same manner as when the radio was originally finished in the factory. We use a nitrocellulose piano lacquer which is applied through a professional HVLP turbine spray system in a climate controlled room. Nitrocellulose lacquer is very thin. We also apply very thin coats. This allows the lacquer to seep into the grain and not cover it up. A fine grit wet sanding follows every third coat along with a polishing process and ending with an Oz glaze rub. During the restoration process on this radio some small veneer chips and nicks were filled and or blended. As you can see, nothing that detracts from the beauty of the set. Many hours of work are put into the radios, but as you can see, the final outcome is a beautiful, natural looking cabinet with gorgeous luster& shine.
