We offer Quality Antique Radios. To view our other antique radio auctions, as well as antique radio grill cloth. To add us to your favorites. Here we have one of my favorite radio designs of all time! An absolutely stunning 1940 General Electric model L-660 table radio featuring a genuine American Walnut cabinet, waterfall top that leads to a slanted front, solid wood pillared sides, top mounted speaker, lighted slide rule dial housed in an amazing chrome escutcheon that is reminiscent of the instrument panels used in cars from that era, pushbutton tuning, loop antenna, and excellent performance. The genuine American Walnut cabinet is just spectacular. It features a waterfall top that leads to a slanted front. Both of which boast a beautiful swirling wood grain that contrasts magnificently with the dark walnut tones on the 1 ¾ solid walnut pillared sides. A wood grill is positioned on the top of the cabinet to accommodate for the top mounted speaker. And you’ll be hard pressed to find any cooler dial and escutcheon design than this one! You’ll be the envy of all with this masterpiece proudly displayed in any room of your home or office. Just look at that amazing chrome escutcheon housing the lighted slide rule dial and pushbuttons! Very reminiscent of the instrument panels used in cars from that era. The escutcheon itself is in excellent shape with a gorgeous luster and shine with very little signs of wear or pitting. The brightly lit slide rule dial features an array of colors from black and gray to red and white with a brown lower half that features the General Electric logo. All letters and numbers are legible and show little signs of wear. The glass is clear and free from any chips, cracks, or breaks. All 5 pushbuttons are in great shape. It is recommended that you use the manual tuning knob due to the age and delicacy of the auto tuning mechanism. Both bullet style knobs are perfect and control on/off & volume and tuning. The set also still retains its original red toggle switch behind the on/off knob to control high & low tone. The 1930′s style grill cloth is a fine reproduction featuring a. Gold color with a miniature dot design. The station call letter tabs are quality reproductions done on a heavy card stock for durability and original look. All tubes in the 6 tube chassis were tested with any weak tubes being replaced. All caps, filters, and resistors were checked and replaced as needed. All brittle or bare wiring was replaced or re-insulated. The chassis has been cleaned, lubed, and re-aligned for optimal performance. The Cabinet’s Finish & Restoration Process. Our Radio cabinets undergo a vigorous restoration process. Our goal is to maintain the natural beauty of the wood and grain, while providing a deep luster and shine. We achieve this by removing all the old and worn lacquers and stains. We then sand the cabinet with fine grit pads down to the original bare wood. Nicks, chips, and blemishes are filled and/or blended. Any loose veneer is re-secured. We make sure any filler applied or repairs made are blended nicely and do not detract from the beauty of the set unless otherwise noted. New stains and sealers are applied by hand. We continue by using many coats of Mohawk brand lacquers and toners applied in the same manner as when the radio was originally finished in the factory. We use a nitrocellulose piano lacquer which is applied through a professional HVLP turbine spray system in a climate controlled room. Nitrocellulose lacquer is very thin. We also apply very thin coats. This allows the lacquer to seep into the grain and not cover it up. A fine grit wet sanding follows every third coat along with a polishing process and ending with an Oz glaze rub. Many hours of work are put into the radios, but as you can see, the final outcome is a beautiful, natural looking cabinet with gorgeous luster& shine. Our radios are a great piece of history that come to you ready to proudly display, as well as listen to, in any room of the home or office. 13″W x 8 1/2″H x 8D.
