This historic gem is Emerson’s first all transistor radio. Manufactured in 1955 during the cold war, the dial has the markings for the Civil Defense stations (CD) at 700 and 1300 as seen in the photos. This radio heralded a new era of radio as manufacturing moved away from tube radios in portables. It is powered by a 9 volt battery, the original of which is part of the package, but for display purposes only, as this type is no longer made. The radio has been updated to use a modern 9 volt battery. The cabinet was cleaned and polished, and presents very nicely with vibrant red and gold. There are two small holes where a prior owner apparently sought to bring in a separate power supply. There are no other blemishes, nor any cracks or deep scratches. Dimensions: 6×3.5×1.5. The chassis has been cleaned, with all components checked. One electrolytic capacitor was replaced. It was aligned and tuned for optimal reception and sound. This radio is a must for a serious collector, and its visual appeal is without question. From what I understand, the red is the most sought after color of this radio.
