Here is a rare and desirable battery operated radio manufactured in 1923. It is a Zenith model 4R, which unusual in that the company’s name is still listed as Chicago Radio Laboratories on the front panel. That name went back to the earliest days of Zenith when their founders were making sets in somebody’s basement or garage. In later years, Zenith dropped the name Chicago Radio Laboratories and was just Zenith Radio. In examining it, I can find a defect as pictured on the front panel, which is a slight crack. This should be a centerpiece of an early radio collection due to its interesting history and its fine appearance and construction. Vintage Emerson Model 849 AM Transistor Radio (1955) HISTORIC

This historic gem is Emerson’s first all transistor radio. Manufactured in 1955 during the cold war, the dial has the markings for the Civil Defense stations (CD) at 700 and 1300 as seen in the photos. This radio heralded a new era of radio as manufacturing moved away from tube radios in portables. It is powered by a 9 volt battery, the original of which is part of the package, but for display purposes only, as this type is no longer made. The radio has been updated to use a modern 9 volt battery. The cabinet was cleaned and polished, and presents very nicely with vibrant red and gold. There are two small holes where a prior owner apparently sought to bring in a separate power supply. There are no other blemishes, nor any cracks or deep scratches. Dimensions: 6×3.5×1.5. The chassis has been cleaned, with all components checked. One electrolytic capacitor was replaced. It was aligned and tuned for optimal reception and sound. This radio is a must for a serious collector, and its visual appeal is without question. From what I understand, the red is the most sought after color of this radio. This extremely rare, elegant, portable radio is the RCA Victor brand and was made in 1940. It features a very impressive 3D front and is one of four in a set (see listing photo). To complete your collection, see my other listings! This radio is all original on the outside! It isn’t missing its handle or knobs, the dial glass is not cracked and the woven grille cloth is in excellent condition. It still appears to have the original cord and plug, but still works and has great volume with only minor crackle! See photos for cosmetic condition. This fabulous little historic radio is a must-have for any collector or antique connoisseur that appreciates charming pieces that simultaneously feature display-ability and functionality.
