Here we have the highly sought after 1934 RCA Victor model 128 tombstone / cathedral table radio. The dark walnut cabinet is quite impressive. Gorgeous wood grain flows throughout the entire set. The shouldered sides, boasting front round pillars, classifies the cabinet as a shouldered tombstone design. But the rounded top can also put it in the Cathedral class. Either way, the Gothic style and superb design is why the cabinet is considered one of RCA’s best. Jet black trim and a large Art Deco grill finishes this beauty off with the utmost style and class. You’ll be the envy of all with this masterpiece proudly displayed in any room of your home or office. The large backlit dial is quite attractive. Illuminated by two dial lamps, it lights nice and bright with a warm orange glow. It features an ivory background with black letters and numbers. The center art work boasts a blue world globe. A small peep hole located at the bottom of the dial indicates which letter, or band, you are currently listening to. All letters and numbers on the dial are legible and show virtually no signs of wear. The shiny brass escutcheon adds an elegant touch and features the RCA Victor logo as well as the famous’His master’s voice’ Nipper dog. All 5 knobs are in perfect shape and control the following; high/low tone, on / off, tuning – knob pressed in for fast normal tuning or pull the knob out for slow vernier tuning with pinpoint accuracy, band switch, and volume. The 1930s style grill cloth is a fine reproduction featuring a classic. Gold color with herringbone design. The chassis features RCA’s then state of the art’Magic Brain’ technology which was to increase performance and reception and eliminate much static while tuning. All tubes in the 6 tube chassis were tested with any weak tubes being replaced. All caps, filters, and resistors were checked and replaced as needed. All brittle or bare wiring was replaced or re-insulated. The chassis has been cleaned, lubed, and re-aligned for optimal performance. With the included copper line antenna the radio performs exceptionally well. The set produces beautiful tone, plenty of volume, and tremendous bass. The Cabinets Finish & Restoration Process. Our Radio cabinets undergo a vigorous restoration process. Our goal is to maintain the natural beauty of the wood and grain, while providing a deep luster and shine. We achieve this by removing all the old and worn lacquers and stains. We then sand the cabinet with fine grit pads down to the original bare wood. Nicks, chips, and blemishes are filled and/or blended. Any loose veneer is re-secured. We make sure any filler applied or repairs made are blended nicely and do not detract from the beauty of the set unless otherwise noted. New stains and sealers are applied by hand. We continue by using many coats of Mohawk brand lacquers and toners applied in the same manner as when the radio was originally finished in the factory. We use a nitrocellulose piano lacquer which is applied through a professional HVLP turbine spray system in a climate controlled room. Nitrocellulose lacquer is very thin. We also apply very thin coats. This allows the lacquer to seep into the grain and not cover it up. A fine grit wet sanding follows every third coat along with a polishing process and ending with an Oz glaze rub. Many hours of work are put into the radios, but as you can see, the final outcome is a beautiful, natural looking cabinet with gorgeous luster& shine. Our radios are a great piece of history that come to you ready to proudly display, as well as listen to, in any room of the home or office. 16 1/4W x 20H x 11 1/4D.
