It has been nicknamed the Hippo radio because of its shape. This is a six tube radio that allows it to receive stations very well with good clear sound and volume without the need for an external antenna. The solid bakelite case has some repaired hairline cracks and has been painted shiny black with a gold dial that lights up when the radio is on. The case has no chips or odors. I have thoroughly washed and buffed the case and it looks remarkable for a 72 year old. The knobs match and are original. The original hardboard back is still in great condition and the label on the bottom shows the location of the tubes. The inside chassis has been thoroughly cleaned; the volume control de-oxidized for smooth volume changes and all moving controls lubricated. I have replaced all old electrolytic and wax capacitors in the chassis with new modern capacitors and have checked all resistors. Brittle or bare wiring has been replaced or re-insulated. All 6 tubes have been tested and questionable tubes have been replaced. The line cord has been replaced with a new 18 gauge cord with molded, polarized plug. The speaker is in great condition. The radio has been successfully bench tested for days and should continue to play loud and clear for many more years. The radio size is approximately 7¾ high by 12 wide by 7 deep and weighs almost 7 pounds. Or model 46-420 “Hippo” Code 125, Philco, Philadelphia Stg. United States of America (USA).
