The genuine wood cabinet boasts a rich grain pattern with only minor edge wear and light scuffs consistent with age. There is no heavy water damage or warping. Front Panel: The clear plastic lens covering the clock and radio dials is remarkably crisp, clean, and free of cracks or heavy fogging. The gold-trimmed border remains fully intact. Hardware: All four original front knobs with brass-toned caps are present. Grill Cloth: The original fabric is tight and free of rips or holes, showing only a very light, natural age-related patina. Rear & Bottom: The original perforated back cover is completely intact, along with its external FM antenna lead connection. The original factory paper schematic diagram on the underside is still attached and highly legible (a huge plus for collectors). Model: L799 (N/L-Series Hybrid Layout). When moving the knobs there is feedback/static noises. Someone added a on/off switch on the right side of the radio case. I’m uncertain what this switch does. There may be other issues. The case has deep scratching/scuffing throughout the item. There is discoloration/wear throughout. The finish on the case has worn/faded off throughout. Known for its quality and craftsmanship, Philco radios are highly sought after by collectors of vintage radios. This particular model offers a touch of nostalgia and historical significance, making it a valuable addition to any collection of vintage electronics. All capacitors have been replaced. The capacitors which were originally inside the Bakelite enclosures were removed and the enclosures re-stuffed with new capacitors. The “metal can” electrolytic capacitors were bypassed with new ones on the underside of the chassis. The radio receives and plays well using a long wire antenna attached to the “Ant” terminal, as these old radios did not come with a built-in antenna. The cabinet has been refinished using dark walnut stain and a topcoat of clear polyurethane. The grille fabric has been replaced also. The speaker had a tear in the paper cone which has been repaired. (glued) The speaker sounds good. The cord has been replaced at some point and is in good condition. I picked this radio up as a project to repair and refinish. I’ve enjoyed repairing and refinishing it and now it’s time for someone else’s enjoyment. (approximately 90 years old).
