To view our other auctions including additional restored antique radios, grill cloth, and supplies. Here we have one of Zenith’s top of the line table models offered in 1941. And you’ll be hard pressed to find a nicer example. Cabinet: The American Walnut cabinet is a real beauty. Solid construction and an eye appealing design that Zenith was so famous for capturing. Gorgeous wood grain flows throughout the entire set. The dark walnut stripes that flow across the center of the cabinet add the perfect contrast. A large wrap around grill adds to the Art Deco appeal while allowing for optimal sound from the speaker. It all comes together magnificently with the impressive black dial surrounded by all the tone controls and gold escutcheon. Jet black trim finishes the cabinet of perfectly. This masterpiece is sure to turn heads no matter which room in the home or office you choose to display it in. Dial & Knobs: Just look at the spectacular black dial surrounded by numerous tone and automatic tuning controls. Quite the eye catcher! White arrow indicators, located on the bottom of the dial, let you know which band you are currently listening to. All numbers and letters on the dial are legible and show very little signs of wear. A large gold escutcheon surrounds the dial and houses various push/pull tone controls on each side. The dial glass is clear and free from any chips, breaks, or cracks. Located at the bottom of the escutcheon are pushbuttons for automatic tuning. Due to the age and delicacy of the auto tuning mechanism, it is recommended you use the manual tuning knob to change stations. If you do wish to use the pushbuttons, they will need to be reengaged and preset to your local stations by a professional. All knobs are in great shape and work as follows: band switch, on/off & volume and manual tuning (located behind the on/off knob). Grill Cloth: The 1930s style grill cloth is a fine reproduction featuring a black and gold color with an Art Deco leaf/wave design. Chassis: All tubes in the powerful 7 tube chassis were tested with any weak tubes being replaced. All caps, filters, and resistors were checked and replaced as needed. All brittle or bare wiring was replaced or re-insulated. The chassis has been cleaned, lubed, and re-aligned for optimal performance. Using just the loop antenna the radio performs exceptionally well. The set provides deep rich tone and room filling volume. Additional copper line antenna will be included for additional shortwave reception. The Cabinets Finish and Restoration Process: Our Radio cabinets undergo a vigorous restoration process. Our goal is to maintain the natural beauty of the wood and grain, while providing a deep luster and shine. We achieve this by removing all the old and worn lacquers and stains. We then sand the cabinet with fine grit pads down to the original bare wood. Nicks, chips, and blemishes are filled and/or blended. Any loose veneer is re-secured. We make sure any filler applied or repairs made are blended nicely and do not detract from the beauty of the set unless otherwise noted. New stains and sealers are applied by hand. We continue by using many coats of Mohawk brand lacquers and toners applied in the same manner as when the radio was originally finished in the factory. We use a nitrocellulose piano lacquer which is applied through a professional HVLP turbine spray system in a climate controlled room. Nitrocellulose lacquer is very thin. We also apply very thin coats. This allows the lacquer to seep into the grain and not cover it up. A fine grit wet sanding follows every third coat along with a polishing process and ending with an Oz glaze rub. Many hours of work are put into the radios, but as you can see, the final outcome is a beautiful, natural looking cabinet with gorgeous luster& shine. Our radios are a great piece of history that come to you ready to proudly display, as well as listen to, in any room of the home or office. Dimensions: 15 3/4″ W x 9 1/2 H x 10″ D.
