To view our other auctions including additional restored antique radios, grill cloth, and supplies. Here we have one of Zenith’s top of the line table models in 1941. And you’ll be hard pressed to find a nicer example. Cabinet: The American Walnut cabinet is a real beauty. Gorgeous wood grain flows throughout the entire set. A large wrap around grill and grooved pinstripe inlays add to the Art Deco appeal. It all comes together magnificently with the impressive black dial and surrounding gold escutcheon. Jet black trim and dark walnut tones finish the cabinet off with elegance and style. This Zenith radio is sure to turn heads no matter which room in the home or office you choose to display it in. Dial: Just look at the spectacular black dial surrounded by numerous tone and automatic tuning controls. Quite the eye catcher! White arrow indicators, located on the bottom of the dial, let you know which band you are currently listening to. All numbers and letters on the dial are legible and show virtually no signs of wear. A large gold escutcheon surrounds the dial and houses various tone controls, as well as automatic tuning pushbuttons at the bottom. Due to the age and delicacy of the auto tuning mechanism, it is recommended that you use the manual tuning knob. The dial glass is clear and free from any chips, breaks, or cracks. All knobs are in great shape and work as follows: band switch, manual tuning and on/off & volume. Grill Cloth: The 1930s style grill cloth is a fine reproduction featuring a whiskey gold color with an Art Deco geometric design. Chassis: All tubes in the powerful 7 tube chassis were tested with any weak tubes being replaced. All caps, filters, and resistors were checked and replaced as needed. All brittle or bare wiring was replaced or re-insulated. The chassis has been cleaned, lubed, and re-aligned for optimal performance. Using just the loop antenna the radio performs exceptionally well. The set provides great tone and plenty of volume. The Cabinets Finish and Restoration Process: Our Radio cabinets undergo a vigorous restoration process. Our goal is to maintain the natural beauty of the wood and grain, while providing a deep luster and shine. We achieve this by removing all the old and worn lacquers and stains. We then sand the cabinet with fine grit pads down to the original bare wood. Nicks, chips, and blemishes are filled and/or blended. Any loose veneer is re-secured. We make sure any filler applied or repairs made are blended nicely and do not detract from the beauty of the set unless otherwise noted. New stains and sealers are applied by hand. We continue by using many coats of Mohawk brand lacquers and toners applied in the same manner as when the radio was originally finished in the factory. We use a nitrocellulose piano lacquer which is applied through a professional HVLP turbine spray system in a climate controlled room. Nitrocellulose lacquer is very thin. We also apply very thin coats. This allows the lacquer to seep into the grain and not cover it up. A fine grit wet sanding follows every third coat along with a polishing process and ending with an Oz glaze rub. Many hours of work are put into the radios, but as you can see, the final outcome is a beautiful, natural looking cabinet with gorgeous luster& shine. Our radios are a great piece of history that come to you ready to proudly display, as well as listen to, in any room of the home or office. Dimensions: 15 1/2″ W x 9 1/2 H x 9 3/4″ D.
