To view our other auctions including additional restored antique radios, grill cloth, and supplies. Here we have the highly sought after 1937 Crosley Super 8 model 817 mirror dial table radio. This was one of Crosleys top of the line sets in their famous selection of mirror dial radios. The American Walnut cabinet is simply gorgeous. Beautiful wood grain flows throughout the entire set. A top and bottom burl grain inlay contrasts the two middle blonde inlays beautifully. Stylish rounded sides, coupled with the attractive grill, makes for a classic Art Deco look. Everything comes together magnificently with the amazing lighted mirror dial. It is quite the sight to behold with the reflections its casts, while either in a bright room or a dark room when the dial lamp is illuminated. Shiny brass trim adds an elegant finishing touch. This highly desirable radio is sure to be the main attraction in any room of the home or office you choose to display it in. The lighted mirror dial is simply amazing. One of the most attractive dials any radio has to offer (which is why Crosley patented it). This is an early model run as can be seen by the inscribed patent applied for at the top of the dial. It is designed with a gold mirror back, coupled with a protruding glass front, which displays all the station frequencies, country names for shortwave reference, and the Crosley Super 8 emblem in reverse paint. This causes a magnificent 3D like effect with spectacular reflections. Very unique from any other radio dials. Whether the reflections are cast by natural light during the day, or by the bright dial lamp in a dark room, it is quite the sight! Note Crosleys own WLW call letters under the 70 mark on the dial. The dial glass and mirror have been polished and are in great shape showing virtually no signs of wear. All four knobs are perfect and work as follows; on/off & tone, volume, tuning, and band switch. Grill Cloth: The 1930s style grill cloth is a fine reproduction featuring a classic gold color with a herringbone design. Chassis: All tubes in the powerful 8 tube chassis were tested with any weak tubes being replaced. All caps, filters, and resistors were checked and replaced as needed. All brittle or bare wiring was replaced or re-insulated. The chassis has been cleaned, lubed, and re-aligned for optimal performance. The Cabinets Finish and Restoration Process: Our Radio cabinets undergo a vigorous restoration process. Our goal is to maintain the natural beauty of the wood and grain, while providing a deep luster and shine. We achieve this by removing all the old and worn lacquers and stains. We then sand the cabinet with fine grit pads down to the original bare wood. Nicks, chips, and blemishes are filled and/or blended. Any loose veneer is re-secured. We make sure any filler applied or repairs made are blended nicely and do not detract from the beauty of the set unless otherwise noted. New stains and sealers are applied by hand. We continue by using many coats of Mohawk brand lacquers and toners applied in the same manner as when the radio was originally finished in the factory. We use a nitrocellulose piano lacquer which is applied through a professional HVLP turbine spray system in a climate controlled room. Nitrocellulose lacquer is very thin. We also apply very thin coats. This allows the lacquer to seep into the grain and not cover it up. A fine grit wet sanding follows every third coat along with a polishing process and ending with an Oz glaze rub. Many hours of work are put into the radios, but as you can see, the final outcome is a beautiful, natural looking cabinet with gorgeous luster& shine. Our radios are a great piece of history that come to you ready to proudly display, as well as listen to, in any room of the home or office. Dimensions: 16 1/2 W x 10 1/4 H x 7 1/4 D.
