Here we have a stunning 1937 Air Castle table radio featuring a gorgeous dark walnut cabinet, lyre harp grill cut out, spectacular back lit dial, waterfall top design, and great performance. The dark walnut cabinet is a real eye catcher. Beautiful wood grain flows throughout the entire set. The waterfall top design reminds you of the Art Deco style that was so popular of the era. An intricate lyre harp grill cut out is quite unique. It all comes together magnificently when powered up and the dial comes to life with an array of colors. Quite an impressive sight! Especially in a dim lit room. Jet black trim and dark walnut tones finish the cabinet off with elegance and class. This beauty is sure to be the highlight of any room in the home or office you choose to display it in. The attractive back lit dial is quite the attention getter. It is illuminated by two dial lamps and when powered up features a black background with green, red, and ivory colors representing the dial scales and station numbers. The Air Castle logo is located directly in the center along with the long sleek dial pointer. What a terrific sight! All letters and numbers on the dial are legible and show very little signs of wear. The dial glass is clear and free from any chips, breaks, or cracks. The surrounding brass escutcheon has a nice shine and adds an elegant touch. All four knobs are perfect and control the following: tone control, tuning, on/off & volume, and band switch. The 1930s style grill cloth is a fine reproduction featuring a whiskey gold color with an Art Deco geometric design. All tubes in the 7 tube chassis were tested with any weak tubes being replaced. All caps, filters, and resistors were checked and replaced as needed. All brittle or bare wiring was replaced or re-insulated. The chassis has been cleaned, lubed, and re-aligned for optimal performance. With the included copper line antenna the radio plays very well. An external antenna will further improve reception. The Cabinets Finish & Restoration Process. Our Radio cabinets undergo a vigorous restoration process. Our goal is to maintain the natural beauty of the wood and grain, while providing a deep luster and shine. We achieve this by removing all the old and worn lacquers and stains. We then sand the cabinet with fine grit pads down to the original bare wood. Nicks, chips, and blemishes are filled and/or blended. Any loose veneer is re-secured. We make sure any filler applied or repairs made are blended nicely and do not detract from the beauty of the set unless otherwise noted. New stains and sealers are applied by hand. We continue by using many coats of Mohawk brand lacquers and toners applied in the same manner as when the radio was originally finished in the factory. We use a nitrocellulose piano lacquer which is applied through a professional HVLP turbine spray system in a climate controlled room. Nitrocellulose lacquer is very thin. We also apply very thin coats. This allows the lacquer to seep into the grain and not cover it up. A fine grit wet sanding follows every third coat along with a polishing process and ending with an Oz glaze rub. During the restoration process on this radio several small veneer nicks and chips were repaired around the edges of the cabinet. All have been filled, secured, and/or blended and does not detract from the beauty of the set. Many hours of work are put into the radios, but as you can see, the final outcome is a beautiful, natural looking cabinet with gorgeous luster& shine. Our radios are a great piece of history that come to you ready to proudly display, as well as listen to, in any room of the home or office. 19W x 11H x 8D.
