Stunning faux exotic wood grain runs across the whole set with an eye catching burl grain strip across the middle and sides. The waterfall top design really catches your eye. A large art deco grill not only looks great but allows for optimal sound from the speaker. Jet black trim adds the perfect contrast to finish the cabinet off perfectly. This seldom seen beauty is sure to attract attention no matter which room in the home or office you choose to display it in. The slide rule dial is quite attractive. It lights nice and bright and features a gold background with black letters and numbers as well as the Sparton logo. A surrounding gold escutcheon adds an elegant touch. A second gold escutcheon, located just below the dial, houses all the swirled bakelite pushbuttons and call letters. All four bullet style knobs are perfect and work as follows; volume, tuning, band switch, and on/off. The tuning knob offers a neat feature where you have to push the knob in to tune the dial. This keeps the station from slowly moving out of reception on its own or if you bump the knob. A very cool feature! The 1930s style grill cloth is a fine reproduction featuring a classic gold background with a swirl / wave design very similar to the cloth used on Zenith tombstones, including the famous Walton, from that era. Station Call Letters: The station call letters are a fine reproduction done with a brown background and white letters. The tabs are made from a high quality card stock for original look and durability. All tubes in the 5 tube chassis were tested with any weak tubes being replaced. All caps, filters, and resistors were checked and replaced as needed. All brittle or bare wiring was replaced or re-insulated. The chassis has been cleaned, lubed, and re-aligned for optimal performance. The Cabinets Finish & Restoration Process. Our Radio cabinets undergo a vigorous restoration process. Our goal is to maintain the natural beauty of the wood and grain, while providing a deep luster and shine. We achieve this by removing all the old and worn lacquers and stains. We then sand the cabinet with fine grit pads down to the original bare wood. Nicks, chips, and blemishes are filled and/or blended. Any loose veneer is re-secured. We make sure any filler applied or repairs made are blended nicely and do not detract from the beauty of the set unless otherwise noted. New stains and sealers are applied by hand. We continue by using many coats of Mohawk brand lacquers and toners applied in the same manner as when the radio was originally finished in the factory. We use a nitrocellulose piano lacquer which is applied through a professional HVLP turbine spray system in a climate controlled room. Nitrocellulose lacquer is very thin. We also apply very thin coats. This allows the lacquer to seep into the grain and not cover it up. A fine grit wet sanding follows every third coat along with a polishing process and ending with an Oz glaze rub. A couple dings and chips in the faux finish were filled and/or repaired. All have been blended and do not detract from the beauty of the set. Many hours of work are put into the radios, but as you can see, the final outcome is a beautiful, natural looking cabinet with gorgeous luster& shine.
