As a 65 year old radio it does have blemishes and imperfections, most notably a dent on the inner metal bezel top left hard to see unless you look down at the radio in brighter light. Please see all photos and video for details! Its amazing to think that this very radio likely broadcast such 1950 historical events such as. Jackie Robinson signing at the time. The highest contract in Dodger history. Beginning of the Korean War. In radio broadcast history. The radio program Dragnet was a hit and had a wide audience despite the increasing popularity of television. Dimension: 15″ in length X 9″ high X 8 in depth. Hello, thank you for your interest before continuing, please click. On the top right of the page your homepage will show any new vintage radio listings I offer. Also, please look at the VIDEO DEMO below to see this beautiful radio in action! This radio has been very well cared for. The radios electronics have been fully restored and the performance is amazing. Powered by 8 TUBES. As a result, it sounds great and pulls in stations both local and distant using its internal loop antenna! Volume is loud and clear coming through its. Original 6 inch speaker. The design of this radio has its roots in art deco with a strong element of machine age. This model is highly sought after by collectors and is rarely found in this kind of condition it even has its original label on the bottom and even the back and knobs which is rare. An early FM model from FADA and a pure Bakelite case are just some of the reasons this is on many collectors bucket list. THE RADIO OF TOMORROW TODAY! Now – for your viewing and listening pleasure please click PLAY below to look and listen to this radio in action!! Then scroll down below to finish reading all the details that makes this radio so exceptional! As you can hear from the video this FADA 790 sounds phenomenal with great selectivity and reception. There is no hum; Volume control is smooth with no scratch or pop noises. The dial scale is exceptionally clean with no rust or pitting. The dial light works well and lights up the scale during night and is bright enough to see in the day. The dial needle moves in sync with the tuning knob as designed and it is in good condition. This radio just got back from the shop and has been electronically restored by a professional radio restorer; all tubes were checked and tested strong, a new line cord was installed to replace the old crumbling one, all filter capacitors and paper/wax capacitors were replaced, controls were cleaned and lubricated, the chassis was lightly cleaned, and the cabinet and trim were lightly polished, it could use a little more detailing but looks amazing. There are a few tiny white specs of paint on the right side, hard to see in normal light, and the back had a phono input at one time, however, the full input mechanism does not seem to be intact any more this does not interfere with the playing of the radio in anyway. The back is fully intact original backs are hard to find! The radio was bench tested to ensure proper operation this radio is now ready for years of use! There is only very minor wear on the case, very hard to see under normal light, but given the age you may find minor imperfections and blemishes on the front, sides, back, top, and bottom of the radio. The original label is fully intact rare on this radio (so rare, reproductions are made to replace missing ones on other radios). The original cardboard back is intact. The line cord is not original. The knobs, dial scale, dial glass, back, and cabinet are all original. The cabinet is truly stunning. Not often found electronically restored and with a case this pristine. Original grille cloth is also present. FADA was founded by Frank Angelo D’Andrea in Bronx, New York in 1923 the name FADA was created using his own initials. FADA radios experienced rapid growth through the 1920s but the depression hit hard and it filed for bankruptcy in 1934. It was reformed and continued to sell radios through the late 1940s. Fada radios are desired by radio collectors because of their unique and stylish machine age designs known for their use of metal trims and unique plastics. The dial lens is original and clear with just a small hairline. The silver ball tuning dial is flawless. Emerson 520 had some interesting variations, and made models similar to the 520 on virtually the same chassis of varying materials. The 520 model had many variations which made it unique – its grill cover panel had either round or square holes and was either black or ivory in color, with either red or beige grill cloth. The frequency numbers in the round dial were either in a 180 degree pattern or 360 degree pattern. Dials colors were either gold, black or blue. Tubes were metal or glass. Catalin is a brand name for a thermosetting polymer popular in the 1930s and 1940s. In the 1930s, radio design became more important to consumers and Art Deco was in full swing. The radio market called for more visual appeal and designers didnt disappoint. Catalin was a newer material developed in the 1920s that was leveraged to support the new Art Deco influenced cabinet designs of legendary radio makers like Fada and Emerson. Catalin used a special resin formula which created a variety of bright colors. Catalin cabinets stand out from their Bakelite and plaskon cousins due to their thickness and polished feel. They appear translucent as well as brightly colored. These beautiful radios are great example of innovation that arose during the depression era and occupy a special place in the hearts of collectors. Emerson 520 Magazine Advertisement from 1946.
