To view our other auctions including additional restored antique radios, grill cloth, and supplies. Here we have a very rare 1936 Aetna table radio. Cabinet: The American Walnut cabinet is simply gorgeous. Beautiful wood grain flows throughout the entire set. Its streamline design, attractive curves and grill bars that wrap around the back of the radio make for a real Art Deco look. It all comes together magnificently when powered up and the dial glows along with the bright green magic tuning eye. What a spectacular sight. Especially in a dim lit room. Dark walnut tones and jet black trim finish the cabinet off with the upmost elegance and class. You’ll be the envy of all with this masterpiece proudly displayed in any room of your home or office. Dial: Just look at that colorful dial coupled with the bright green magic tuning eye and shiny brass escutcheons. Quite the site to behold! Aetna scene right in the middle. There are also a variety of foreign country names listed for shortwave reverence. All letters and numbers on the dial are legible and show little signs of wear. The tuning eye lights a bright emerald green and opens and closes with signal strength. All four knobs are in perfect shape and control the following: on/off & volume, tuning, band switch and variable tone control located on the back of the chassis. Grill Cloth: The 1930s style grill cloth is a fine reproduction featuring a classic gold color with a herringbone design. Chassis: All tubes in the 7 (including ballast & eye) tube chassis were tested with any weak tubes being replaced. All caps, filters, and resistors were checked and replaced as needed. All brittle or bare wiring was replaced or re-insulated. The chassis has been cleaned, lubed, and re-aligned for optimal performance. The Cabinets Finish and Restoration Process: Our Radio cabinets undergo a vigorous restoration process. Our goal is to maintain the natural beauty of the wood and grain, while providing a deep luster and shine. We achieve this by removing all the old and worn lacquers and stains. We then sand the cabinet with fine grit pads down to the original bare wood. Nicks, chips, and blemishes are filled and/or blended. Any loose veneer is re-secured. We make sure any filler applied or repairs made are blended nicely and do not detract from the beauty of the set unless otherwise noted. New stains and sealers are applied by hand. We continue by using many coats of Mohawk brand lacquers and toners applied in the same manner as when the radio was originally finished in the factory. We use a nitrocellulose piano lacquer which is applied through a professional HVLP turbine spray system in a climate controlled room. Nitrocellulose lacquer is very thin. We also apply very thin coats. This allows the lacquer to seep into the grain and not cover it up. A fine grit wet sanding follows every third coat along with a polishing process and ending with an Oz glaze rub. Many hours of work are put into the radios, but as you can see, the final outcome is a beautiful, natural looking cabinet with gorgeous luster& shine. Our radios are a great piece of history that come to you ready to proudly display, as well as listen to, in any room of the home or office. Dimensions: 17″ W x 9 H x 7″ D. I sell quality antique radios and describe them accurately, as can be confirmed with my outstanding feedback. My radios are expertly packed using oversized boxes, many layers of bubble wrap, and several inches of packing material surrounding each side of the radio so you can be assured they arrive safely. If your radio arrives and does not work please let us know. We will gladly walk you through the process of troubleshooting to get it started. The tubes, capacitors, resistors, and filters. However, if at any time these parts would happen to fail, we will assist in repairing or replacing the defective part at minimal cost. Finally, in very rare instances, if there is. This old Silvertone tube radio measures 15 ½ x 12 ½ x 9 inches. The case is veneer wood and with the exception of the missing veneer to the front in the center at the bottom. There are no other missing pieces of veneer. There are a few age cracks to the veneer on the upper right hand corner. We have pictured for one to evaluate. The overall condition of the case in my opinion is very good and shows typical light wear. This radio when plugged in (I believe the plug to be of the period and original) powers up and does make a humming noise. I tried to adjust several knobs and frequency and was not able to get any radio stations, but varying levels of static. Not really certain what the “magic Eye” does, so I cannot say of this is in working order. Overall, a really nice old radio which is just begging for someone to bring it back to life.
