With everything original on the cabinet, it looks like a step back in time with a brand new radio, even though it is 68 years old. It was disassembled, cleaned and polished to bring out the richness of the dark chocolate like finish. And, it has the rich, mellow sound that only a good tube radio can bring. With seven tubes, this radio has strong and quality reception. The dial lamp is nice and bright, creating a very pretty look on the dial face against the dark bakelite background. The chassis was cleaned and serviced, with all paper and electrolytic capacitors replaced. Tubes and resistors were replaced as needed. The controls and contacts were detail cleaned and lubricated. The unreliable selenium rectifier was replaced with a diode. The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception and quality of sound using the internal loop antenna. This post WWII radio speaks to a time of prosperity in the USA and the hope and progress for the new decade. It’s got a bold and confident look that will enhance whatever decor it will be placed in. For the collector, it is a must. Fully restored now, it will easily last another 68 years.
