THE MODEL 70 PICTURED HERE IS A SEVEN TUBE RADIO FROM 1935. JUDGING FROM THE QUALITY AND WORKMANSHIP IN BOTH THE ELECTRONICS AND THE CABINET, THIS MUST HAVE BEEN ONE OF GE’S TOP OF THE LINE OFFERINGS FOR THAT YEAR. THE SEVEN TUBE SUPERHETRODYNE CIRCUIT, WITH SEPARATE GROUPS OF SHIELDED COILS FOR EACH OF THE 3 FREQUENCY BANDS, GIVES EXCELLENT SELECTIVITY AND SENSITIVITY. THE ELECTRONICS HAVE BEEN COMPLETELY RESTORED: ALL PAPER DIELECTRIC AND ELECTROLYTIC CAPACITORS WERE REPLACED, AS WERE OUT OF TOLERANCE RESISTORS, BRITTLE WIRING REPLACED, TUNING CAPACITOR REMOVED, CLEANED AND REPLACED WITH NEW RUBBER GROMMETS, BAND SWITCH CONTACTS CLEANED, AND MOVING PARTS OILED, NEW POWER CORD, AND A COMPLETE RE-ALIGNMENT. THE RESULT IS A GREAT SOUNDING RADIO. THE FINISH ON THE IMPRESSIVE ART DECO CABINET, ALTHOUGH NOT PERFECT, WAS TOO GOOD TO STRIP AND REFINISH. I DECIDED TO RESTORE IT WITH GO-JO HAND CLEANER (WITHOUT GRIT) AND PUMICE, THEN REPEAT THE PROCEDURE WITH GO-JO AND ROTTENSTONE. KNOBS AND GRILL CLOTH ARE ORIGINAL. THIS IS A LARGE HEAVY RADIO, MEASURING 20″ HIGH, 15″ WIDE, 11 DEEP WEIGHT 32LBS. WEIGHT AND DIMENSIONS WILL DIFFER AFTER PACKING. RADIO WILL BE WELL PACKED (CHECK MY FEEDBACK). THEN WILL SEND INVOICE FOR. The item “VINTAGE GE TOMBSTONE TUBE RADIO” is in sale since Saturday, January 21, 2017.
