The converter does power on and the backlit dial works as it should. The wood cabinet is very solid and the finish is really, really nice! It measures approximately 17 3/4 by 12 1/4 by 10 1/4. As I understand it, these were made to add shortwave to your existing set. These would have been used with the early Philco cathedrals (70, 90, etc) or on top of an early console. This set was manufactured by the Philadelphia Storage Battery Company in Philadelphia, PA! Please be sure to check out my many other vintage radios that I have for sale!
