This offering is for a german tube receiver. 6 Tefifon Cassettes included. Model 1956 – 57. A unique invention of the German engineer Dr. Had the vision to develop a device that could allow hours of playback music, audio books, fairy tales and other sound recordings of the highest quality. He wondered how a meandering tape could be inserted into a cassette that it would rotate endlessly. Records from shellac had only a playback time of about 4 minutes, then the plate had to be turned over. The playback quality was very inadequate. Tape recorders were still too expensive for an “average income”. Was an endlessly running tape. In fact, the Tefifon is a kind of record that can be rolled up and housed in a cassette. Tape end and tape beginning were joined to one another. So many songs could be played. To play back an existing radio or amplifier could be used. Initially bands were offered with a duration of one hour, followed later cassettes with up to four hours of run time. Following the successful launch not only players were available, followed by radio with built-in player, combinations of TV, radio and Tefifon and portable Tefifone. The equipment was manufactured in Cologne, Germany, the sale was its own shops and representatives. The last units were produced in 1965… Unluckily the company ended insolvent. While this radio is attractive and certainly is an eye-catcher, it’s real strength is the chassis. The drive I have, as well as it is possible, restored. That’s why I fitted a different crystal system. The sound now largely corresponds to the original. The mechanics of the drive I have restored and oiled or greased. It works satisfactorily, but… The cassettes are sometimes a bit wavy, then the sound bounces off a little. Clean chassis, and in amazing performer. I restored the chassis as well as the housing very carefully. The seven tube chassis has been cleaned and lubed carefully before restoring. Then tar and electrolytic capacitors have been replaced. Please note: The Tefifon player was produced for the European market. Perhaps the player works with other power supply only with restrictions. Technically, the radio of a complete restoration was subjected. Known to be prone to failure capacitors and components have been replaced, as well as power rectifiers and capacitors. The case is in orignal condition, minor scratches are on the housing. The wooden side panels have slight scratches. After all work was done, an extensive field tests in the automated test system have not presented any defects. I´m using a check-list with approx. 80 points for all work which has to be done in an old tube-radio to make it running for the next fifty years. So I measured all voltages, tested tubes, checked electrical and mechanical components, adjusted the filters, lubricated the mechanics, checked and fastened screws. The dial glass is beautiful, cleaned and polished. And I did very much more necessary work. For the technically interested readers some details. Tubes 7: ECC85, ECH81, EF89, EABC80, EM85(replaced by EM80), EL84, EZ80. Power: AC 110 – 220Volt. Dimensions: 27.6 x 15 x 12.2 inch, (700 x 380 x 310 mm). Net weight: 39 lb 10.4oz (18kg). A few words about me. I’m radio and television master of the “old school”. The training in Germany will be made dual. This is of great advantage. It means the trainee is formed parallel in the company and at school. The company provides practical knowledge and the school teaches the theoretical fundamentals. After three and a half years there is a final exam in theory and practice. By the master exam is possible to open his own business and young people to train. My training in the craft began in 1967 as the tube technology was at its peak. Over time I have repaired several thousand devices expertly. All offered radios are in my collection for decades. Now I reduce my collection and offering some special pieces here. I will gladly answer your questions about tube radios. Only if the radio meets my quality standards, and these are very high, then I offer it. Although great attention it is possible that the radio fails. After all, it is over fifty years old. But even in this case a solution is possible. Attached are the service manuals and schematics. The FM provides the amazing thrilling sound these radio are known for. Nevertheless, for serious listening, an external antenna will provide amazing radioreception. This is a Europaen model, FM works up to 100MHz(nearly up to 103MHz). This beauty radio with it’s lovely white furniture, dial glass must not be damaged. I will package this receiver personally to make sure it is done correctly. My packing is overkill, see the pictures and my feedback. This is a used radio from my collection and it is offered by private.
