History of the Learadio – Learradio 561 by Lear Co. Owner William Powell Lear, known for inventing the automobile radio but who is also known for founding The Lear Jet Corp. And has over 120 other patents registered. This great looking high quality radio with its nice looking Bakelite case This model 561 chassis is the same as the 562 & the 563. It comes with a built-in wire-wound antenna for excellent reception. 10-1/2″W x 8″H x 7D. This is a 1945 Learadio model 561. Radio I believe to be original except for the cord as it has been replaced. I know absolutely nothing about radios. This radio was acquired from an estate of a collector that had many of tube radios. Radio turns on and does pull in stations. Has few very small spots where paint is missing shown in pictures commonly found on a vintage items this old, but you decide as I tried to show in pictures….

This iconic set was designed shortly after WW2, and was manufactured in bakelite starting with Series A in late 1946. The set on offer is part of Series C, and was made in 1948. The radio is in great physical condition, as pictured, with no cracks, chips, breaks, or repairs (other than the original white bakelite plug) noted. The paint looks good, with one tiny piece chipped off on the upper right side. Another nice touch is that the radio retains its original printed press board backing. Please review all photos to make a determination of condition for yourself. Not only does this radio look great, but it sounds fantastic, too. As with virtually all tube radios, it takes between 15 – 30 seconds for it to warm up before the sound kicks in. The radio has a nice strong speaker, and picked up all of my local stations across the dial without even attaching an antenna. For superior performance and sensitivity, a small random length of wire can be attached to the small clip in back.

I just plugged this in and was easily able to tune in stations just fine. The case has some scratches from age and use but it’s in overall very good condition. HOWEVER, please note that both the volume knob and channel selection knobs both have damage on them. I found the following info online on RadioMuseum website. Crosley Red Bullseye Tube Radio. Model 11-115U – “The Serenader”. This awesome, atomic look radio is in very nice shape for age! The color is dark red/maroon. The case has minor surface wear, small color chips & little scratches. The back board is intact and in good shape with a little surface wear and it’s a bit warped on one side.
