Here we have a spectacular philco radio model 37-610. This wonderful set is known as the “large bullet” in the radio collecting world and was made in 1937. Philco made this cabinet in walnut and maple. This is the maple version cabinet which is very rare and hard to find. The radio plays great across all three bands with plenty of volume and deep rich tone coming from a large eight inch speaker. The radio has a very clean five tube chassis with a power transformer that receives the a. Broadcast band and two bands of shortwave. All electrolytic and paper/wax capacitors have been replaced with modern type capacitors. All tubes have been checked and replaced as needed. Resistors were replaced as needed. All moving parts were lubricated. The chassis has been aligned back to factory specifications. A new dial light has been installed. A new power cord has been installed. All controls work as they should. A unique feature of this set is the “beam of light” dial pointer. A thin beam of light shows which station you are on and also indicates which band you are on. This deco table radio sounds and performs more like a console set. The huge eight inch speaker is rare for a table radio and the adjustable tone control lets you set the tone that is most pleasing to you. The cabinet has been refinished using high quality grain fillers and nitrocellulose toning and clear lacquers. I apply at least 12 coats of lacquer, sanding every other coat for maximum smoothness. I let the cabinet cure for at least one month and then hand polish to a high gloss. This is a very time consuming process but the results are worth it. The cabinet is very solid and has lustrous wood graining. The numbers and graphics on the dial are perfect and the dial lights up very well. The knobs are original to the set and have been polished to a high shine. The grill cloth is a high quality replacement which is very close to the original pattern and color. An exquisite general electric model gd-41. This superb set was made in 1938. This model is one of my favorite small table radios. The lustrous walnut veneer is contrasted with a vertical strip of zebra wood veneer. The dark trim and three section cutout grill make this radio unique and coveted by collectors. A new dial light has been installed and lights the dial very well. A new power cord has been installed. All controls and knobs work as they should. This is a four tube chassis, five tubes if you count the ballast tube. I have replaced the ballast with a diode/capacitor and resistor combination. These components are under the chassis and do the same job electrically as the ballast tube. The original ballast tube is still in place on top of the chassis, but has been disconnected. I also installed a brand new volume control. The set receives the a. Band and performs quite well with nice tone and plenty of volume. The cabinet has been refinished using high quality grain fillers and nitrocellulose toning and clear lacquers. I apply at least 12 coats sanding every other coat, for maximum.
