This isn’t the prettiest Valiant you’ll find. The previous owner had repainted the cabinet and attempted to repaint the faceplate. He didn’t do a great job take a look at the photos for more detail. Some of the cabinet screws on the back have been replaced with sheet metal screws. It also looks like he added some modifications, and unfortunately we don’t have any notes or schematics to document what has been done. We briefly powered the transmitter on to ensure the tube filaments light up, but beyond that we have done no testing. This equipment came from the estate of a ham operator and has been tucked away in a storage unit for approximately 15 years. We have not done any testing beyond what is specifically mentioned above. There are a few reasons for this, but it essentially comes down to the fact that they almost always need some level of service and it’s simply not cost effective to pay our technician to spend time going through them. It may or may not need components replaced (caps, resistors, tubes, etc), controls cleaned/lubricated, alignment, and so on. Unless you are qualified and capable of working on this unit yourself, or are willing to pay a qualified individual to do the work for you, we suggest you revisit the idea of whether this is the right equipment for you.
