This Sentinel catalin radio will make a wonderful Autumn treat, just look at the way the catalin pops in the warm Autumn sun! The pumpkin orange / yellow catalin case is in very nice lightly hand polished condition. There is a tight stress crack on the left side of the cabinet. This radio does play well but the power cord is old and it should be replaced for this radio to be safe to use. The electronics are old and should be updated for this radio to be in optimum working condition. Overall this radio should prove to be an easy restoration. I will add more pictures of the cabinet and of the chassis soon. Autumn is just around the corner and I can’t think of a better radio {well maybe one} to welcome it home with than this Sentinel catalin! A crack at the top of the dial cover and a long scratch diagonal, it is plastic there. The top has a few scratches. Got at least 10 stations has an antenna cord attached to hook up to an antenna, but got good stations with out one. 12″ L 7 7/8″ tall. Looks like it has a new cord and new cloth also. Interior of the radio could be made of some hazardous materials I dont know about, and cords. Personal catalog number 687. For being 78 years old, it is in pretty nice condition. This set plays well, just plug it in. This is a seldom-seen Radio, 5 Tube, in the form of a stack of books. This rather rare radio is one of two models from Sentinel that are made to look like a stack of books. It dates from around 1940 or’41, the Riders Perpetual Troubleshooter page for this model is dated 1940. It is in very good condition for this type of radio, the cloth and fake leather covering have no tears or holes, not even where it flexes for the hinge. There are some areas where the covering has begun to separate from the case, particularly inside the “lid”, but this could be glued down again. Most examples of this radio I have seen have the covering in shreds. This radio has had some service, the main filter condensers have been replaced along with the power cord. I plugged it in for a test, got strong clear reception all across the band. A fantastic find for the novelty radio collector! I will not mark merchandise values below value or mark items as “gifts” – US and International government regulations prohibit such behavior.
