Featuring super 1940′s Art Deco styling with’Rainbow Grille’ and Stair-step walls, Rounded Corners, white Propeller Dial Pointer. This radio is in great shape for its age, the case is perfect. The measurements are: 10.5″ across, 6.5″ high and 6′ in width. This radio will give years of good service. PICTURES ARE ALSO A PART OF MY DESCRIPTION. The Model number on this radio is 540-T. This radio was produced in the 1951 era. This was an fairly popular radio when it was introduced in 1950′s & still is by today’s standards. The Two Tone Color Black /Yellow Metal cabinet on this Beauty Looks Nice ” Not Perfect ” as it has a few small minor Nicks/imperfections & so forth. The louvered Speaker Grill adds a Nice Touch to the overall design of the cabinet. This cabinet has been cleaned & re-polished which still produces a nice sheen or shine “Not Perfect”. I have taken many pictures of this nice looking radio & all pictures can be supersized so you may get a good view at this Nice Looking & working radio. The Black & Yellow Round dial scale is in good condition. The Black/Yellow Plastic Volume. Control knob is in nice condition & work well. There is No antenna system. A Long Black Wire has been installed for the antenna & that wire Must be Stretched out in one direction or another for reception. The chassis is in good condition & it is a 4-tube unit with 2-controls & both controls have been lubricated & are in good working condition. The tube line up is 1-12SQ7, 1-12SA7, 1-35Z5 & 1-50L6. The chassis has had an older restoration of the electrolytic capacitor/filters by a previous owner & some wax/paper capacitors were replaced as needed & a New electric cord has been installed. This radio has been restored to working condition. NOW THIS IS A 4-TUBE UNIT & SENSITIVITY & THE RECEPTION IS “NOT” a Very Sensitive radio. JUST USING THE LONG GREEN ANTENNA WIRE ALONE IS REALLY NOT ENOUGH. I PERSONALLY HAVE CONNECTED THIS UP TO AN OLD PAIR OF TV (RABBIT EARS) ANTENNA TO THE LONG WIRE & THAT HELPS FOR BETTER RECEPTION. I ALSO CONNECTED/ATTACHED THIS LONG GREEN WIRE TO MY ALUMINUM WINDOW FRAME & THE RADIOS RECEPTION WORK VERY WELL/ “LOT BETTER”. ESPECIALLY WHEN CONNECTED/ATTACHED THAT LONG BLACK WIRE TO MY ALUMINUM WINDOW FRAME & THE RADIOS RECEPTION WORKED A “LOT BETTER”. This ARVIN MIDGET Yellow RADIO would make an Nice addition to your radio collection or as a stand alone radio as it’s power & beauty will surely be the talk of the room by all whom enter. Sized of this Fabulous Gem is 8-1/4″ Long, 4″ Wide/Deep & 5-1/2 High. This is a vintage radio & must be handled & cared for & treated in this manor & not like a modern day boombox. Tube radio technology “unlike modern day solid state radios” can have interference/noise in the sound quality, caused by kitchen appliances, computer monitors, flat screen TV’S, florescent lights, washing machines, high power wires above your home, etc… So where you position/place this radio in your home can make a huge difference & the direction/position it is set in. A lot of tube radios are directional meaning you “may” have to turn the radio one way or the other to receive the best reception. Tube radio usually take 30 to 45 seconds after they have been turned/powered ON before they will start playing as the tubes have to warm up. I package very well for a safe arrival. If you have any questions please ask & I will promptly answer & as best as I can. Please ask questions before the end of the sale & not after. Thanks for looking I appreciate it.
If you are looking for a restored old-time tube radio that can be played as often as you like and for as long as you like, please read on. Every effort has been made to offer a practically new radio, performing as it did originally, and to be maintenance free for quite some time. Restored to it’s original condition, this radio set is ready to bring another lifetime’s listening pleasure. You will be satisfied with this radio set because no detail inside OR outside has been overlooked in order to deliver “dependable performance” to it’s proud new owner. Key electronic components have been replaced. Anything else that was left are in excellent condition and show no signs of quitting; that includes the original transformer inside. Someone sent in a question: What does key electronic components mean? For example, this 1936 model needed a new volume control as the original exhibited gross static that you weren’t going to fix by spraying a little something in it. In this 1936 receiver, the volume control is in circuit with the antenna. Without writing a novel here, suffice to say it took considerable work and expense to determine exactly what specification volume control would perform the best in this early radio circuit; not to mention custom grinding in order to make it fit. That’s just one example. The exceptionally sturdy Craft-Built wood cabinet has been refinished in traditional manner using linseed oil varnish to bring out the texture of the veneers and impart a soft shine. If you look close at the photos of the cabinet top and sides, you can see the textured veneers. The cabinet measures: 12.5″ x 8″ x 9high. The original crisp station dial is present. The brass bezel style dial cover was polished and overvarnished to prevent future tarnishing. The dial cover itself is glass and not plastic. The electronics inside the chassis are in exceptional working condition. Radios from 1936 did not yet utilize loop antennas as they received their station signals from long aerials attached to the antenna terminal post on the back of the chassis. As part of this sale, I will include a 9 foot aerial wire. I happen to live within the greater NYC metro area where radio signals are strong and 9 feet of aerial was more than sufficient for reception. Should your experience be different, simply extend the wire. You may view what loop antennas look like by clicking on some of my other late 1940′s radio sets listed for sale. Yes, technology kept moving ahead from 1936. The so-called “Police Band” is obtained by turning the right hand knob counter-clockwise. Please don’t expect to find any Police transmissions as they have moved to other frequencies since 1936. This radio uses 5 tubes. All 5 tubes are ” new old stock”. The only mileage on the tubes is what were logged on during restoration and bench testing. The dial light bulb is new and rated at 20,000 hours. After the restoration, the radio was re-aligned (tuned-up) and plays just fine with the stations falling where they should exactly as seen on dial. Did I mention, the electrical cord is new. Altogether, a thorough, clean job. Check out the photos. This old Stewart-Warner is heavy as it is constructed from wood and incorporates a heavy old fashioned chassis. I will double box using new cartons so that your new radio arrives undamaged in transit.
