Offered for your consideration is this wonderful, restored Arvin 5 tube radio – model 53. It is considered a compact or midget radio manufactured in the early 1950′s. It plays exceptionally well – clear and crisp with no hum. This is a working radio ready to play, display and enjoy – the sound is very good – it is playing as I write this. As with all my radios it is electrically sound – the tubes are strong and all of the original wax/paper capacitors have been replaced. The case has been restored to a screaming fire engine red using high quality automotive paint – it shines. The grill cloth is an excellent replacement and it is correct without a back. The measurements are: 8″ across, 5″ high and 4 wide. This radio will give years of good service. Every vintage tube radio I sell has been thoroughly serviced – tubes tested, components checked and then the unit is lubricated and cleaned inside and out. Collectors – This is a rare one! It’s a pre-war model that really stands out with its push-buttons and lighted dial. It is an Airline, which was the store brand for Montgomery Ward, their model. The cabinet has been polished with my 4 step process that brings out the original factory finish. It has the original knobs and back. The deep brown marbled Bakelite cabinet and back-lit dial give it a stunning look. Check out the photos! Reception is through a standard loop antenna which is attached to the back of the radio. There is also an external connector on the back for an antenna. Thoroughly bench tested for a minimum of ten days, this unique radio is ready for you to use and enjoy. Since it is fully restored you will want to listen to it every day! I went through the chassis and replaced all of the electrolytic (filter) capacitors, the major cause of hum. I then replaced all of the wax/paper capacitors. The resistors were then checked and any more than 20% of their original value were replaced. All of the tubes were tested. Using my Precision 612 tube tester. The dial light bulb was replaced with a new bulb. The volume control and tuning capacitor were lubed so they now operate smoothly and quietly. I also replaced the power cord with a polarized cord for your safety. I then carefully cleaned and polished the chassis to a pleasing luster. He intermediate and radio frequency circuits were aligned to their peak utilizing my HP 8601A RF sweep generator. And my B+K Precision VTVM. This will be a great addition to anyone’s collection. At the time it was manufactured it was not subject to the tremendous amount of RF interference that is generated today from computers, flat screen TVs, high-speed cable modems, light dimmers, etc. Careful placement of the radio is essential to minimize audio interference. It is my experience that different parts of my home will give me better reception than others. Some experimenting may be necessary for best reception.
The make, model, and country of production are all unknown, but this vintage vacuum tube radio has been restored and serviced and is in perfect working order. This is a vintage vacuum tube radio of unknown maker (the power transformer is labeled “SEIDENSHA RADIO WORKS / MELODY”), which has been restored, serviced, and is in perfect working order. In order to give life to the item again, we have restored it to its original condition as it was when we first acquired it (electrical surgery), and we are auctioning it in the hope that it will be rehabilitated and put back into society. The exterior case is coated with oil stainless steel and varnished in the same color to bring out the grain of the wood, and although there are some signs of use due to the passage of time since it was first acquired, such as the missing back cover, there are two substitute dial knobs, and the speaker cloth (cloth) has been reupholstered and replaced. The tubes used are old ST tubes “UY-56 / UX-26B / UX-26B / KX-12F”, 4 tubes in total. The dials are operated by a “power switch” on the left side of the case, and “for main varicons / for playback varicons” from the top of the right front part. The main restoration work this time was to restore the chassis to its original state by removing rust with a scraper, applying oil stainless steel, and varnishing, The power switch had poor contact, which was repaired by applying contact resurrection agent / Replaced the power cord with outlet, speaker cord, and pilot lamp cord / Repaired the center heater bias wires of two UX-26Bs supplied from the power transformer, which were broken in the middle / The power supply choke coil was broken, and a 3K? /4W type resistor was installed / A 3K? /4W type resistor was installed and restored / A 1:3 step-up transformer was disconnected between B and P, so an equivalent transformer was installed / One UX-26B was in NG condition, so it was replaced with a good condition product / An electrolytic capacitor was in NG condition, so a new 22? F 450V x 2 was replaced / A horseshoe speaker was in NG condition, so a new 22? F 450V x 2 was replaced / A 1:3 transformer was in NG condition, so it was replaced with a good condition product. 2 new 22? F 450V speakers / The horseshoe speaker was missing, replaced with a new one in good condition / Removed the antenna coil, checked all the cords and replaced the wiring coverings / Installed the appropriate resistors and adjusted the plate voltage of each vacuum tube / The space between the varicon fins was corroded, cleaned the space between the fins and adjusted the position of the shafts. The shaft position was adjusted and the condition was restored. The inside of the chassis has been cleaned as well. Please check the condition of the item in the photos. Offered for your consideration is this great little restored Telechron 5 tube clock radio – Model 8H59, built in 1948 The condition of this clock radio is very good. This is a working radio ready to play, display and enjoy – the clock and timer are in good working order – the Electron clock movement was disassembled and lubricated. The clock escutcheon shows a bit of wear. The wine case colour is a vinyl high end scratch resistant automotive product. The sound is clear and crisp with no hum. As with all my radios it is electrically sound – the tubes are strong and all of the old paper wax the capacitors have been replaced. The cord has been replaced with a polarized plug. It features a stylized Bakelite cabinet; an escutcheon on the clock ; the clock and timer are also run on a Telechron movement; the tuning control works smoothly and the back, loop antenna and all knobs are original. The measurements are just: 10″ x 6″ x 4.5 The radio will continue to give years of good service.
