This offering is for a german tube radio. Model 1961 – 62. In model year 1961/62 saba brought the gigantic freiburg automatic 11-stereo in the market. For the first time with the new engine electronics circuit for tuning and volume. With a price of 829.00 dm it was the most expensive automatic radio in this series. In germany, the average monthly income was dm 240.00. Unfortunately, the sound quality in this video is inadequate. The radio sounds much better! Maybe the video will not be shown in all countries. I beg your pardon. The development department was able to realize many of the fantastic and unusual applications in this radio. A total of 13 tubes, and five big speakers were installed in this high-end radio. This radio has so many features, it is hardly possible to enumerate all. There is a push-pull output stage with five tubes, five saba green cone speakers, automatic station search, stereo playback of records or stereo sources, scale transmitter display with adjustable markers and the original saba logo is still there. No other radio in this time could bring such benefits. High-quality reception characteristics, a powerful amplifier and five outstanding speaker mounted in a nice furniture, what more do you want? A significant development is the automatic tuning. A quick tap on the keys and the scanning will start. If a strong station is found, then stops the automatic. The transmitter is then adjusted precisely. Please note that the automatic scan was developed in 1953. The performance of the transmitter was lower than today. Therefore, it is possible that the automatic search does not always exact. In this case, it is useful if the automatic tuning is turned off. The freiburg automatic 11-stereo is a real gem. It was handled very carefully. Through the careful technical and optical restoration, it gives an authentic impression of radio technology that time. For the technically interested readers some details. 13 tubes: ec92, ec92, ech81, ef89, em84, ebf89, ef86, ebc91, el84, el84, eabc80, , ef86, ecl80. Power: ac 110 – 220volt. Loudspeaker: 5 saba green-cone loudspeakers. Dimensions: 26.6 x 17.9 x 12.2 inch, (700 x 455 x 310 mm). Net weight: 57 lb 4.3oz (26kg). While this radio is attractive and certainly is an eye-catcher, it’s real strength is the chassis. Clean chassis, and in amazing performer. I restored the chassis as well as the housing very carefully. The thirteen tube chassis has been cleaned and lubed carefully before restoring. Tar and electrolytic capacitors have been replaced. All have been carefully restored. Only if the radio meets my quality standards, and these are very high, then i offer it. Although great attention it is possible that the radio fails. Attached are the service manuals and schematics (copies). The fm provides the amazing thrilling sound these radio are known for. Nevertheless, for serious listening, an external antenna will provide amazing radioreception. Please note this is a europaen model, fm works up to 100mhz (almost up to 103mhz). The stereo playback is provided only for record players, tape recorders or similar devices. A few words about me. I’m radio and television master of the “old school”. My training in the craft began in 1967 as the tube technology was at its peak. Over time i have repaired several thousand devices expertly. Radios are in my collection for decades. Now i reduce my collection and offering some special pieces here. I will gladly answer your questions about tube radios. I´m using a check-list with approx. 80 points for all work which has to be done in an old tube-radio to make it running for the next fifty years. So i measured all voltages, tested tubes, checked electrical and mechanical components, adjusted the filters, lubricated the mechanics, checked and fastened screws. The dial glass is beautiful, cleaned and polished. And did very much more necessary work. Original speakers all in place and sound great. The sound can be controlled by potentiometres and a button sprache(speech). Shines the brass, but i get his old patina. The furniture was cleaned and polished. Please note some pictures reflect furnishings. The finish is original, certainly has the crazing in the finish that is so common to these radios, but it is still shiny and attractive. The bottom panel was repaired and is also in place. No apologies for this performance. This beauty radio with it’s lovely furniture, dial glass and speaker grille must not be damaged. I will package this radio personally to make sure it is done correctly. The radio has a very high weight. The installation is very easy. The chassis is bolted with four bolts to the housing. Then two color-coded plug must be plugged. A description for this work i enclose. My packing is overkill, see the pictures and my feedback. This is a used radio from my collection and it is offered by private. Usual signs of use are not listed separately and are no cause for complaint. Your questions will be answered professionally. Saba, some interesting facts. The company was founded 1835 as a metallurgical company in villingen in the black forest. At first they made watches, some years later they made precision scales for postcards, door bells, bicycle bells and some other metal products. In 1924 the production of spare parts for homemade tube radios begins. In 1927 continued the manufacture of complete radios. The reason for the success was the technical progress linked to the high quality of the products. On the scale of sales volume, telefunken was the number one, saba number two and nordmende number three. In 1938, the number saba manufactured 1,000,000 tube radios. During the war, saba fabricate fm transmitters and receivers for tanks. In 1945 the factory was bombed. The production of radios began again in 1947. In 1949 the company had 1,000 employees, the economic volume was 21 million dm. Since the early radio broadcasts, saba was one of the leading companies and well known for its high level of quality. The production of valve radios concluded in 1969. Sensational was the production of automatic radio in 1953. The automatic tuning by a motor was probably unique in the fifties. This offering is for a german tube radio. Model 1961 – 65. Designed by hans gugelot and dieter rams. One of the first projects after the takeover of the max braun company in 1951 by his sons erwin and arthur braun, was the development of a new model range, which should appeal especially to the younger generation. For the first time a design department was established under the leadership of historian dr. Fritz eichler, as a creative “esthete” and arthur braun as a technician. The result was, inter alia, the legendary braun sk1, a radio equipped with simple rectangular shape with all the essential functions, and without the usual ornaments that time. A further development was the receiver rcs 9 with four wavebands and stereo function. The playback capability of stereophonic records and tapes was a new technical feature. Optionally can be played on output 1 a broadcast-station and source 2 playeds an audio source. The amplifier has built a total of 6 tubes in stereo amplifier, the power tubes ecll80 work in push-pull operation. A total of 11 high-quality tubes were installed in the radio, for that time a rarity. Up to the present time radios made by brown are all examples of perfect design. The phono-transistor-combination tp1 is shown at the metropolitan museum in new york. While this radio is attractive and certainly is an eye-catcher, it’s real strength is the chassis. Clean chassis, and in amazing performer. I restored the chassis as well as the housing very carefully. The eleven tube chassis has been cleaned and lubed carefully before restoring. Tar and electrolytic capacitors have been replaced. Technically, the radio of a complete restoration was subjected. Known to be prone to failure capacitors and components have been replaced, as well as power rectifiers and capacitors. The case is in orignal condition, minor scratches were retouched with paint. The aluminum side panels have slight scratches. Extensive field tests in the automated test system have not presented any defects. I´m using a check-list with approx. 80 points for all work which has to be done in an old tube-radio to make it running for the next fifty years. So i measured all voltages, tested tubes, checked electrical and mechanical components, adjusted the filters, lubricated the mechanics, checked and fastened screws.
