Please look to the pictures carefully. Because of the time of use it has some scratches. But even these traces of use the radio shows make it a beautiful antique. Braun, some interesting facts. The company Max Braun oHG was founded in 1921 by the engineer Max Braun in Frankfurt. 1923 constructed Max Brown his first radio and produced for the expanding radio industry tube socket and accessories. The great success encouraged him to move already two years later in a new factory building. There, the production of an amplifier for the sound of large events began. At the end of the decade, Brown took over the production of radio receivers in license by Carl Sevecke. With the beginning of 1933 the development and production of self-developed radio began. These were the models Mozart, Edel-Super and Super W4, and the production of the Volksempfänger. The first predecessor of PKG5-81 was music combination Phono-Super 637GW. At 1936, the first portable radios were designed and manufactured. Due to the war years the company Braun had to take over the production of armaments. In 1944 the Frankfurt factories were destroyed by air raids. The production facilities were built after the war. In addition to other equipment there began the production of the first dry shaver Model 50S. After the sudden death of Max Braun 1951 (he was only 61 years old) took his sons Artur and Erwin Braun company. Erwin Braun formed the appearance of the company completely around. He changed the face in the company and unified the product range. A fundamentally new was the thought to establish a department for design. Here new products should be developed, which should be distinguished by a different appearance from the crowd of other manufacturers. It emerged in teamwork most products and designs. Very farsighted was also collaborating with the School of Design in Ulm, Germany, here the foundations were laid for the world-famous Braun design. Important names for product design were beside Fritz Eichler, also Hans Gugelot, Wilhelm Wagenfeld, Herbert Hirche and Dieter Rams. Early pioneering products in the radio range are the small tube radio SK 1 and the radio-phonograph combination series “PK-G”. Reactions to the straightforward style, which was characterized by its clear forms, could not be greater. Some loved the Braun design, others despised him. It was especially the elite who was enthusiastic about the design and was in accordance with purchasing power. Only gradually copied some manufacturers the design, it was the so-called Nordic style in the sixties. The last Braun appliances with the model name Atelier was delivered in the year 1990. Vintage German Tube Radio Receiver BRAUN STEUERGERÄT ATELIER 2 produced 1961

This offering is for a german tube receiver. Model 1961 – 65. Designed by Hans Gugelot and Dieter Rams. One of the first projects after the takeover of the Max Braun Company in 1951 by his sons Erwin and Arthur Braun, was the development of a new model range, which should appeal especially to the younger generation. For the first time a design department was established under the leadership of historian Dr. Fritz Eichler, as a creative “esthete” and Arthur Braun as a technician. The result was, inter alia, the legendary Braun SK1, a radio equipped with simple rectangular shape with all the essential functions, and without the usual ornaments that time. The phono-transistor-combination TP1 is shown at the Metropolitan Museum in New York. A further development was the receiver Atelier 2 with turntable and four wavebands. The playback capability of stereophonic records and tapes was a new technical feature. Optionally can be played on output 1 a broadcast-station and source 2 plays an audio source. The amplifier has built a total of 6 tubes in stereo amplifier, the power tubes ELL80 work in push-pull operation. A total of 11 high-quality tubes were installed in the radio, for that time a rarity. Up to the present time radios made by Braun are all examples of perfect design. While this radio is attractive and certainly is an eye-catcher, it’s real strength is the chassis. Clean chassis, and in amazing performer. I restored the chassis as well as the housing very carefully. The eleven tube chassis has been cleaned and lubed carefully before restoring. Then tar and electrolytic capacitors have been replaced. Technically, the radio of a complete restoration was subjected. Known to be prone to failure capacitors and components have been replaced, as well as power rectifiers and capacitors. The case is in orignal condition, minor scratches are on the housing. The wooden side panels have slight scratches. I would specifically point out that the turntable is defective. The turntable revolves, but the pick-up system is defective. After all work was done, an extensive field tests in the automated test system have not presented any defects. I´m using a check-list with approx. 80 points for all work which has to be done in an old tube-radio to make it running for the next fifty years. So I measured all voltages, tested tubes, checked electrical and mechanical components, adjusted the filters, lubricated the mechanics, checked and fastened screws. The dial glass is beautiful, cleaned and polished. And I did very much more necessary work. For the technically interested readers some details. Tubes 11: ECC85, ECH81, EF89, EBF89, EM84, ECC83, ECC83, EC92, EC92, ELL80, ELL80. Power: AC 110 – 220Volt. Dimensions: 22.1 x 7.7 x 11 inch, (562 x 195 x 280 mm). Net weight: 28 lb 10.1.7oz (13kg).
