This old Heathkit station monitor is pretty dirty as a result of years in storage. The good news is that despite the dust, it’s straight with no damage. With some time and effort it should clean up well. I haven’t taken it out of the cabinet, but I see no obvious signs of modification. This will make a decent restoration candidate, or a great parts unit! After nearly eight years in business, we’ve made the decision to no longer test vintage equipment that’s been sitting idle for long periods of time. I apologize for this, but we’ve simply encountered too many problems. But that doesn’t necessarily mean this is a junker! We have relationships with plenty of reputable technicians around the US and will be happy to pass along their contact info upon request! Vintage GR 1931-B General Radio tube-type AM mod monitor

An old amplitude modulation broadcast monitor by GR in Cambridge, Mass. Best guess is 1958 for date of origin on this unit. It may be that it was once in a rack shelf or other rack-compatible exo-unit – note the fittings on the left and right sides of the face panel. These are well-made vintage historical pieces, and the 1931-B is no exception. Has a 600-ohm audio monitor connection. The unit powers up; no I/O tests were performed. It’s close to complete, but not quite – you’d need a 2050 tube and an OD3 to fill out the tube complement; each of those types is common and available from multiple vendors. It appears mostly original, with perhaps a few parts and modifications performed over the years. The chassis is dinged up a bit around its lower edges. Called the’Radio Nurse’, this is one of the earliest examples of a baby monitor receiver. Dark brown bakelite case with marbled handle. Measures 5 ½ by 6 ½ by 8 ½ tall. Condition: Several scratches and scuffs. One small chip on back but no cracks. Please see all pics for details. Has not been tested as cord is completely shot. It was designed and produced the design in 1937 for the Zenith Radio Corporation. In 1939 it was displayed at the Whitney Museum of American Art’s annual sculpture exhibition, where Time Magazine called it the’most exotic’ exhibit in the show.
