This radio is in excellent condition indeed. It has great reception and selectivity and the build quality is excellent Stewart Warner was known for its quality in their day. This radio is perfect for collectors or for an interior designer that needs a rare and functional display piece for that special clients office or home! It will go with any décor. It would also make a very unique gift for anyone including you! Get your own valid XHTML YouTube embed code. As you can hear, the radio sounds excellent, no hum and the controls all work as designed. The radio has had its electronics restored, the chassis was cleaned, the controls cleaned and lubricated, the case polished, and the tubes replaced as needed if weak, capacitors replaced as needed also. This one is going to create quite a stir as to find one in such good shape is quite uncommon and even less so electronically restored it also has its original knobs! Made in the USA – In Chicago, Illinois! By the Stewart Warner Corporation. There are minor imperfections here and there that are not easily seen particularly on the front center dial cap, and on various spots on the case there are imperfections and blemishes however, not easy to see and nothing too. Significant or that detract from the overall look of the radio. There is no dial light on this model though the reflective brite on the dial reflects the sun and can look like it has one. Knobs are present and original. Stewart Warner was founded as Stewart & Clark Company in 1905 by John K. They made speedometers for the Ford Model T. In 1912 John Stewart joined with Edgar Bassick to make vehicle instruments and horns. Bassick owned Alemite Co and Stewart had bought the Warner Instrument Company, thus the name was changed to Stewart-Warner Corporation. The company started in Chicago and built a manufacturing plant. The building kept expanding and finally covered one-million square feet and six floors. They made many products such as refrigerators and screw machines, and later scoreboards used by stadiums, however, they were very well known for their beautiful radio cabinets that they produced, especially from the 1930s, with attention to detail that few manufacturers could match at the time. Stewart Warner was also one of the biggest US suppliers / contractors to support the war effort during World War 2. Today Stewart Warners Radios are among the most sought after antique radios for their detailed designs & the scarcity of remaining models in good condition. Dimension: 12″ in length X 9 high X 7″ in depth. I use plenty of Bubble Wrap, extra padding and double box or use extra box support material. It will be marked Fragile & This side up on the box to make sure it is handled carefully. The radio is fully insured. A small sampling of my feedback. Best packaging ever for a vintage radio – I really appreciate it. Fantastic radio as advertised, careful and thoughtful packaging. If there are any problems, please contact me and we can review options. At top right of the page & your homepage will show any new vintage radio listings I offer. To view my other Radio listings! Be sure to view the. Below to see & hear the radio in action! If no video shows up – simply go to YouTube and enter. This will allow you to see all of my latest videos direct from YOUTUBE. This radio has been serviced with controls cleaned and lubricated and the cabinet polished to a mirror shine. In Zenith Advertising, this radios cutting edge styling was the perfect blend of art deco, jet age and early mid century modern design. This particular Y723 has the less common brown and ivory color combo. Powered by 7 tubes, it sounds good on FM as music passes through its 5.25 inch original speaker strong stations come in terrific, weaker FM stations not as clear but still sound OK. The case is near mint – that’s the real story with this stunner. The knobs are Zenith knobs from the 1950s era but may not be specific to this model however, looks perfect on it! Perfect for a daily player, or collectible for display. O find an Y723 with this color combination and in this condition is truly uncommon. There is no hum and the knobs function as designed with no slipping. All other external components and cabinet are near MINT. Below and hear this radio playing – then continue on to read more details on the item below! As you can see from hearing the video, this Zenith sounds amazing on FM! Strong stations come in great – father stations come in OK too – just not as clear. The Zenith Y723 was the next step in Zeniths steady evolution toward true high fidelity sound. There are some very minor imperfections and blemishes on the front, top, sides, and bottom but nothing that detracts from the overall look and very hard to see in normal light. The case as close to museum quality as you can get. This radio has been serviced electronically. The electronics were gone through with all tubes being checked and testing strong, the chassis was cleaned, and the controls were cleaned and lubricated. The case has been polished meticulously and now has a mirror shine!! The cord is pliable with no cracks. The original label remains mostly intact on the bottom. They either had a 723 or 724 model designation with an H, Y, or T in front. The sound was truly something impressive compared to its predecessors and the competition. They came in many variations over the years. Colors such as Brown, Grey, Grey/White, Brown/Ivory, Green, and solid white. Some had metal bezels, while others were body color. Some had carrying handles. The pointers were either metal with a gold finish, or plastic with the color the same as the cabinet. Grilles had either cloth with a metal mesh, or were a mesh plastic. They are all well known by collectors and sought after for excellent FM reception and very good tone and sound quality. They represented for Zenith the next level of radio sound evolution as they moved ever closer to high fidelity! This particular Y723 from 1956 has the less common Brown / Ivory color combination. The Zenith Y723 is a very solid, long lasting radio with amazing sound. Perfect for collectors or as a functional display piece to show off in your office or home & will go with any décor! It would also make a unique gift. You will enjoy listening to it for years to come! This Zenith Y723s cabinet is in nearly flawless condition with very minor wear – The beautiful brown walnut color case shines like new. The ivory plastic mesh grille looks great (it was cleaned, and looks great). It has a large off center round Airplane dial with dark brown plastic dial pointer that matches the cabinet color it is in excellent condition, as are the knobs. The Z on the Zenith crest on the grilles upper right corner is open and highlights the white color of the grille It has large numerals for easy identification of the station frequencies. There are 3 knobs. The center is for on/off/volume. The right is for tuning, and the left is for band control. It is interesting to think that this very radio may have broadcast such 1956 historical events as Fidel Castro starting the Cuban revolution, Warsaw Pact countrys invading Hungary during the Cold War, and Elvis Presley recording his first hit Heartbreak Hotel! Dimension: 12.6″ in length X 7.7″ high X 7.5 in depth. At top right of the page & your homepage will show any new vintage radio listings I offer. To view my other Radio listings! Be sure to view the VIDEO DEMO to see & hear the radio in action! Simply go to YouTube and enter. D Man Antique Radios. This will take you to my YOUTUBE page and allow you to see all of my latest radio videos direct from YOUTUBE. 1939 Silvertone 7241 made by DETROLA! Seldom seen in working condition and are on the bucket list of most Silvertone AND DETROLA collectors! One of the original Made in Detroit products this 77 year old antique is amazing and working wonderfully. The radio currently resides in Detroit and at night it received a broadcast from Nashville Tennessee and Radio Havana Cuba! It has a motorized tuning set (same as the Detrola 532-1). The motor allows you to preset the push buttons and electronically tune the radio. The highly stationed dial is sought after by collectors for its large lighted dial which lights up bright and bold. It is powered by 7 tubes and has a Magic eye tube that opens and closes as you get stronger / weaker signals between the stations. One of the original Imported from Detroit products – this wonderful Prewar Silvertone Detrola is a rare find. His radio gets in stations up and down the dial and sounds amazing! The detail on this 1939 Silvertone / Detrola is beautiful. Designed at the height of the Art Deco style movement, and the deco design influence is obvious. The cabinet is mostly solid wood (likely walnut) with amazing detail. When this radio lights up it really gives you a sense of what it must have been like for families in the mid 1930s gathering around this radio to listen to news about the depression, sporting events, and music. As you may know, These Detrola made radios Whether Detrola Silvertone or Western Auto sell for top dollar on. BUT this particular one is being offered with NO RESERVE! Its electronically restored and plays great. See video demo below and then scroll down for more info. Get your own valid XHTML YouTube embed code. As you can see / hear, it sounds amazing! Cosmetically it looks great of note and common on these models – the seam on the top shoulder separated at one point just slightly from the case (top right) It has since been secured and braced internally on both sides and is now more sturdy and solid than when originally made it looks fine the way it is as the imperfection is only visible in the seam and considering its almost 80 years old I would keep it as is as it doesnt detract from the overall look – but if you are so inclined. A little wood filler and some finish restorer or stain will take care of that. But this survivor looks great as it is! Even less frequently do working examples and rarer still ones with any kind of electronic restoration as for this particular model. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to add this Silvertone / Detrola to your collection. This 7 Tube Detrola has a. And sounds great with excellent selectivity using a simply wire antenna I clipped on with alligator clips. (Note: the antenna is not included but you can easily obtain one from electronics stores like Radio Shack). Theres a small short wire already attached which gets good reception by itself. The cabinet and components. On this radio are in amazing shape. The solid wood case with wood veneer is a beautiful representation of prewar Art Deco radio design. The cabinet finish shows very minor wear on the top and sides (See photos and video). The front is clean. The dial lens is very clear and the dial scale is in great shape. The cabinet has no serious nicks or cracks other than whats noted already. The dial lens, dial scale, knobs, grille, pointer and veneer are all and original! Wonderful opportunity to own a functional piece of rare history. (Note: long wire antenna not included but one can easily be obtained from electronics outlets like radio shack). I was able to get a station as far away as Nashville and Cuba and this radio resides in Detroit Michigan (Note: your reception will vary based on several factors including location and geography). Detrola was founded in 1931 in Detroit Michigan. Detrola began radio production by 1932. Like many other radio manufacturers Detrola had remote suppliers and furniture makers it used for cabinets. One of them was Michigan based, Wolverine and another one was Caswell-Runyan in Huntington, Indiana. The latter was later bought by Detrola. Detrola built radios under a variety of private brand names as well as under their own moniker. Up to 90% of radio production was for private brand names. Detrola laid claim to having one of the worlds largest output of radios by the middle 1930′s. Some estimates claim their production may have been the 6. The company merged with International Machine Tool, INC. During World War 2 resulting in a big conglomerate that was involved in many fields including building military equipment for the war effort. The new name of the company became International Detrola. Sadly, with increasing competition from mass market radio manufactures such as Philco, RCA, & Zenith, it was difficult to compete and the Detrola radio assembly lines fell silent by 1948. During their short run they made quite an impact and made a lot of radios. Today, Detrola radios are some of the most sought after antique radios by collectors – coveted for their unique Art Deco designs and due to their scarcity. Working examples are quite rare. Its amazing to think that this very radio likely broadcast such historical 1939 events as. The waning days of the depression, and war in Europe with the Nazis attacking Poland! In music news, swing was topping the charts! Dimensions are 18.5″ in length X 8″ high X 7 in depth.
