Heres a very nice example of a 1952 Automatic Radio Company CL-164B clock radio. This radio has an all-wooden cabinet, and has the original blonde finish, which was very popular with mid-century designs. Ironically, the wood underneath the finish is actually mahogany veneer. The clock keeps accurate time, and all alarm functions (including snooze function) work well. You can plug a lamp into the back of this radio, and itll turn on when the alarm goes off! The radio electronics were professionally serviced within the last 3 months. The power cord was replaced; all of the capacitors were replaced, the resistors were checked and replaced as needed, and all the tubes tested strong. It was aligned and adjusted using professional electronics service equipment. The clock mechanism was disassembled, cleaned, lubricated, and the motor coil was replaced. The wires connecting the clock to the radio were replaced with high-temperature silicone wire for safety. All of the knobs are believed to be the originals. I cleaned the cabinet, and gave it a coat of Johnsons Paste Wax. Please consider the pictures as part of my description, and feel free to ask any questions you might have. LOTS OF STATIONS ON THE DIAL… AND GOOD TONE CONTROL. THE TONE CONTROL AND ON/OFF ARE ON THE LEFT…. THE BAND SELECTOR AND THE TUNING IS ON THE RIGHT. THE ONLY REAL FLAW WITH THIS RADIO IS THAT THE BOTTOM HALF OF THE BAND SELECTOR KNOB HAS BEEN BORED-OUT AND WILL NOT CHANGE BANDS. IT IS TOO LOOSE. WE ARE INCLUDING ANOTHER BAND SELECTOR LOWER PART WITH A BROKEN TAB THAT ACTUALLY WORKS. IF YOU WANT TO CHANGE TO SHORT WAVE, JUST PUT THIS PART IN PLACE OF THE KNOB NOW THERE. SEE THE LAST GALLERY PHOTO. SIZE: 16 wide X 14 hi X 11 deep. WORKING RADIO WITH MANY UPGRADES. TWO BAND SELECTOR BOTTOMS ARE INCLUDED — ONE WITH A TAB THAT DOES NOT WORK… AND ONE WITHOUT A TAB THAT DOES WORK. EITHER I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO CHANGE THE PRE-SET KNOBS OR THEY DO NOT WORK. THE CAT’S EYE TUBE IS BRIGHT BUT DOES NOT SEEM TO MOVE. THE BAKELITE FACEPLATE IS A LITTLE HEAT WARPED AND NOT CONNECTED ON THE UPPER LEFT CORNER. WOOD SHELL IN PRETTY GOOD CONDITION WITH MODERATE WEAR FOR ITS AGE. THERE IS A LITTLE VENEER FLAKE MISSING ON THE UPPER LEFT FRONT CORNER WHICH CAN BE SEEN IN THE GALLERY PHOTOS. TONIGHT AS I WAS LISTENING HERE IN PITTSBURGH, I HEARD WCBS IN NEW YORK LIKE IT WAS DOWN THE STREET. I ALSO GOT STATIONS FROM PHILLY & BOSTON. THE DIAL WAS LOADED WITH SIGNALS. THIS IS ALSO A FULL RANGE FM RADIO WHICH IS UNUSUAL FOR 1948. THE SIGNAL WAS NOT AS STRONG…. BUT I WAS ONLY USING THE COPPER ANTENNA INSIDE THE RADIO. THE FM WILL PROBABLY REQUIRE SOME ADDITIONAL AERIAL WIRE. APPROX SIZE: 19 x 11 x 12 HIGH. CONDITION: TESTED / WORKING. FM WILL NEED AN ADDITIONAL AERIAL. VINTAGE MID-CENTURY ZENITH 8G005 TUBE SHORT-WAVE RADIO RECEIVER. Powers on and has static. I have been able to tune in a couple of stations but they still have static. May need to be repaired or tuned. Still has the often missing antenna which is spring loaded and still works. GOOD VINTAGE COSMETIC CONDITION. Plastic dial cover has yellowed slightly and is loose. This radio is in great shape for its age with only a couple of exterior blemishes on the front. Manual and blank station cards and complete instructions are under the radio in the front. Complete and in good working condition – displays nicely! Original mid-century, “race-track” brown bakelite cabinet is in very good condition – there are no cracks, chips or deep scratches – just a few very minor surface scuffs/scratches. The center brass zenith crest lights up nicely when radio is on. The silver metal elongated center piece has very slight oxidization. Knobs in are in good condition. Works and plays well, the chassis is in good condition – free of rust and mold. Don’t miss out on this amazing 1951 zenith radio! Overall cabinet dimensions: 13.8″w x 6.7″h x 5.9d.
