The unit does work and like most tube type radios, there is always a little background noise. Speaker is in very good condition with no cracks or chips to the case. The base unit does have a stress crack on the top as shown in the pics. The aqua blue is a mid-century color from the 1950s. It seems to be a scarce color. The radio displays beautifully, the black plastic cabinet is in excellent condition with no cracks or chips – just very minor scuffs. The original knobs with reflective silver inserts are mechanically functional. Radio was tested – it does plays, but with limited reception to improve longevity and performance, electronic restoration is recommended. Permanent Magnet Dynamic (PDyn) Loudspeaker (moving coil). Heres a very nice example of a 1952 Automatic Radio Company CL-164B clock radio. This radio has an all-wooden cabinet, and has the original blonde finish, which was very popular with mid-century designs. Ironically, the wood underneath the finish is actually mahogany veneer. The clock keeps accurate time, and all alarm functions (including snooze function) work well. You can plug a lamp into the back of this radio, and itll turn on when the alarm goes off! The radio electronics were professionally serviced within the last 3 months. The power cord was replaced; all of the capacitors were replaced, the resistors were checked and replaced as needed, and all the tubes tested strong. It was aligned and adjusted using professional electronics service equipment. The clock mechanism was disassembled, cleaned, lubricated, and the motor coil was replaced. The wires connecting the clock to the radio were replaced with high-temperature silicone wire for safety. All of the knobs are believed to be the originals. I cleaned the cabinet, and gave it a coat of Johnsons Paste Wax. Please consider the pictures as part of my description, and feel free to ask any questions you might have. WE ARE INCLUDING ANOTHER BAND SELECTOR LOWER PART WITH A BROKEN TAB THAT ACTUALLY WORKS. IF YOU WANT TO CHANGE TO SHORT WAVE, JUST PUT THIS PART IN PLACE OF THE KNOB NOW THERE. WOOD SHELL IN PRETTY GOOD CONDITION WITH MODERATE WEAR FOR ITS AGE. THERE IS A LITTLE VENEER FLAKE MISSING ON THE UPPER LEFT FRONT CORNER WHICH CAN BE SEEN IN THE GALLERY PHOTOS.
