Kenwood TS-830S Vintage Tube Hybrid Vintage Ham Radio Transceiver SN 4030196. This is a nice rig. It has been well cared for by it’s previous owner, as I hope is evident in the photos. There are only a few light scuffs on the cabinet, and the faceplate looks great. The display isn’t as bright as we’ve seen on other radios, but I certainly wouldn’t call it “dim”. Operationally, this one is ready to go! We tested it out and found everything to be working as you would expect. Please note that no microphone is included, so you will need to supply your own. The manual can be downloaded for free online. Please realize that this is a vintage piece of equipment, and unless specifically noted above, it has not been fully restored with new components. It will inevitably need maintenance, however it’s impossible to know whether that will be next week or a few years down the road. Unless you are capable of doing this work yourself (or have access to someone who can), we suggest you revisit the idea of whether this is the right equipment for you. Nice looking older Kenwood TS-520 Tube/Transistor Hybrid. She powered right up. Very sensitive receiver with nice audio. All controls seem to be functioning properly. I tuned around 40 and 20 meters using my ZS6BKW antenna. Plenty of activity on the bands. Internal speaker works, but I prefer an external when testing or using radios. I tuned the transceiver on 7.200 per Kenwood’s instructions. I moved over to CW and retuned the transceiver. Almost 100 watts on my antenna with no antenna tuner. Not too bad for an old set of 6146′s. I used a Shure SM-58 mic wired for 4 pin Kenwood pin outs to check the LSB output on 40 meters. My Flex was my signal monitor. Other than leaving it on for a couple hours no further testing. External clean without excessive wear. A nice Kenwood for restoration. Just the transceiver and a DC cable. Did not come with a mic or ac cable. There could be other issues with the unit that are yet to be discovered. Will require maintenance sooner or later. This is a vintage radio with 2 6146B tubes in the final and a 12BY7A tube as the driver. This radio looks good though it has some marks here and there. Considering its’ age, it is pretty nice. It has both the SSB and CW filters installed. The radio covers 80-10 meters minus the WARC bands (12, 17 and 60–it was made before hams were given access to those bands). It receives fine and transmits at reduced power–about 75% of full power appears at the output. The most common cause of reduced power is weakening final tubes. I have never replaced the final tubes in the 2 and a half years I have owned and used this radio so maybe their time has come. Truth be told, 75% output on this thing is probably all most of us will ever need. So you should be good to go for a long time. Also included is the AC power cord and the VFO jumper plug (this little plug is required unless you are using the external VFO). There is no DC cord included (it will run on 12VDC without any external power supply if you have that cord) nor any other accessories. Note that NO MICROPHONE OR KEY is included–you must supply those (the mic plug is the traditional 4-pin style). Lots of guys like the Astatic D-104 mic with this radio, so hat is an option. But most any common PTT hand mic will work. There is a speaker built into the radio but an external speaker was also made for it or connect any 8 ohm speaker. Look at pix and ask questions. This is super clean, one owner base that works and looks amazing. Check out the photos: the front face looks pretty much perfect. All knobs and switches are perfect. Top cover has some minor signs of age, outer case looks good with minor signs of age, back panel, bottom, and feet look perfect. Inside is super clean…. Check out the photos. The unit works, but I do not have an antenna or dummy load to test the transmit. There is no AC hum or bad noises and all of the switches work smoothly without any noise or static. This is a good one that was well treated and is super clean.. Great one for the collector. Nice Rare Tube Hybrid Drake SW-4A Shortwave Radio Receiver. Thanks for looking at my auctions this week. 4 If you live close by or won multiple items, don’t pay immediately. This unit was made in Miamisburg Ohio, a couple hours from me. It has the Radio New York International logo on it. This unit has not been powered on in a decade. It appears to be in pretty nice unmolested original complete condition. I would suggest bringing it up on a variac. From the Internet: The Drake SW4A blends tube and solid-state technology to provide an easy-to-use high performance shortwave broadcast receiver. This radio has an S-meter and 1/4 inch headphone jack. The dial accuracy is ± 3 kHz. 10.75 x 5.5 x 12.25 inches 16 Lbs. Look at the large photographs. The face is very nice. The arc of light in the one dial photo is not wear, just sunlight reflection. There are some scratches on the top. In the rear photos you can see that I cleaned a bit of dust away, so you can see that the chassis will clean up pretty easily. There doesn’t appear to be any rust or anything bad like that.
