The radio does power on as it should and both backlit dials work nicely. When I switched to the FM dial, I could only hear static. The radio may need some minor adjustment or, perhaps, one of the antenna connections has come loose? This is a really interesting radio. All of the various dials and switches seem to be working as they should be. The wood cabinet is nice and solid and the finish looks nice. There is, what looks like, a little bit of blue paint on the top of the radio. I have not tried to remove it. All of the original knobs are present. As you can see from the. Pictures, the chassis looks clean, but the radio has been in storage for many years, so I’m sure that it could use a good/thorough cleaning. Please be sure to preview all of the pictures so that you can determine the condition for yourself. This set would look very nice in any vintage themed room or in your collection! 35W4(1), 12BE6(1), 12BA6(1), 12AT6/12AV6(1), 50CS(1). Power output tubes are first mounted in test fixtures and burned in for 24 hours. This burn-in helps stabilize the internal operating parameters of the tubes before measurements begin. Each power tube is then tested and graded for technical characteristics specified by platinum tubes engineers. Tubes not meeting these criteria are rejected to the supplier or disposed of. Average tube life will depend on several parameters: product type, how the product is installed, loudspeaker efficiency, room size and acoustic damping, listening habits or average sound pressure levels, A. Line stability and purity, and other circumstances. Generally, preamplifier tubes last up to 5,000 hours, while power amplifier output tubes will last up to 3,000 hours. Near the end of their useful sonic life, aging vacuum tubes may degrade the sonic character of the product(s) they are used in. The sound may become somewhat dry and lifeless, with a noticeable decrease in harmonic richness or bloom. Bass response may be diminished, and musical dynamics may flatten out or compress. Toward the very end of their service life, tubes may become noisy, noticeable as a slight rushing sound or rustling noise. It is far better to replace vacuum tubes prior to the end of their service life, before severe sonic degradation or outright failure occurs. Running vacuum tubes into failure may damage to other internal components and cause needless repair expense. Factors which can shorten tube life include inadequate ventilation, overdriving loudspeakers at continuously high volume levels, severely fluctuating A. Sagging line voltage during summer peaks of air-conditioning demand, or severe interference pulses or electromagnetic interference. This is for a beautiful 1950s era Zenith B-835R wooden mahogany tube radio. Considered by many to be the best sounding american radio from the mid century era. Its definitely the clearest and loudest table radio I’ve ever heard. And my research indicated that this radio is particularly an easy one to do a modification to make it able to play an ipod. I looked at a youtube video (there’s a bunch of them) on how to do it and it seemed to me that a person with some basic knowledge could do it pretty easily and cheap. Only a few dollars worth of parts. The gentleman I got this from told me he had a radio guy go over this unit about 15 years ago. One of the pics of the side makes it look like the finish is faded on the bottom 2 inches but its just the lighting. There’s no fading there. It also looks like there is some white specks in the pic of the other side view but I can’t see them in real life. I will be listing a TON of vintage electronics in the next few weeks. Measures 15 1/2 x 10 high x 8 deep and weighs about 14lbs. Thats a proven track record of integrity and honesty. 12+ years of packing it right so it will get to you undamaged. I sell mostly used vintage items and they may have wear and I may not be an expert on them so please look at the pictures carefully and ask questions. Items may have come from a home where somebody smoked. Local pick-up is always accepted and even encouraged. This radio features “Loudness” (+power) and “Bass/Treble” knobs, both in fully functioning condition. The tuning and band dial works, however the tuning marker does not move along with the channel changing. This radio powers on just fine and I was able to find a couple different stations. In addition to the tuning marker, this radio may be in need of more maintenance. I have not found any further mechanical damage though. The 54 two-pronged power cord is in great shape. This is a model C845M with unit number printed on the bottom reading “666″. It measures 15.5″x9.5″x7.75. Please see all photos for condition. For sale is a very clean and original Radio Craftsman PP mono 6V6 amplifier. Tubes test good and amplifier plays. However, capacitors should be updated and unit electrically restored before use.
