Listing is for a virtually flawless 1938 Detrola model 208 vintage tube radio. This pre-war set is made of marbled black and brown bakelite, with a case that uses subtle and elegant art deco style elements – like the unique sweeping lines of the horizontal speaker grill, and classy original bullet knobs. It has a small 9″ wide by 7″ tall by 5 deep footprint, making it easy to fit in virtually any space. Although it relies on a tuned radio frequency (TRF) receiver vs. The superheterodyne design of its successor, the more commonly seen model 283, I had no trouble picking up most of my local stations by extending the wound length of period-correct cloth-covered antenna wire. I actually find that it has a surprisingly large sound for its size. I can’t guarantee it, but believe that the radio was recently recapped.
