Vintage German Tube Radio Receiver BRAUN STEUERGERÄT ATELIER 2 produced 1961

This offering is for a german tube receiver. Model 1961 – 65. Designed by Hans Gugelot and Dieter Rams. One of the first projects after the takeover of the Max Braun Company in 1951 by his sons Erwin and Arthur Braun, was the development of a new model range, which should appeal especially to the younger generation. For the first time a design department was established under the leadership of historian Dr. Fritz Eichler, as a creative “esthete” and Arthur Braun as a technician. The result was, inter alia, the legendary Braun SK1, a radio equipped with simple rectangular shape with all the essential functions, and without the usual ornaments that time. The phono-transistor-combination TP1 is shown at the Metropolitan Museum in New York. A further development was the receiver Atelier 2 with turntable and four wavebands. The playback capability of stereophonic records and tapes was a new technical feature. Optionally can be played on output 1 a broadcast-station and source 2 plays an audio source. The amplifier has built a total of 6 tubes in stereo amplifier, the power tubes ELL80 work in push-pull operation. A total of 11 high-quality tubes were installed in the radio, for that time a rarity. Up to the present time radios made by Braun are all examples of perfect design. While this radio is attractive and certainly is an eye-catcher, it’s real strength is the chassis. Clean chassis, and in amazing performer. I restored the chassis as well as the housing very carefully. The eleven tube chassis has been cleaned and lubed carefully before restoring. Then tar and electrolytic capacitors have been replaced. Technically, the radio of a complete restoration was subjected. Known to be prone to failure capacitors and components have been replaced, as well as power rectifiers and capacitors. The case is in orignal condition, minor scratches are on the housing. The wooden side panels have slight scratches. I would specifically point out that the turntable is defective. The turntable revolves, but the pick-up system is defective. After all work was done, an extensive field tests in the automated test system have not presented any defects. I´m using a check-list with approx. 80 points for all work which has to be done in an old tube-radio to make it running for the next fifty years. So I measured all voltages, tested tubes, checked electrical and mechanical components, adjusted the filters, lubricated the mechanics, checked and fastened screws. The dial glass is beautiful, cleaned and polished. And I did very much more necessary work. For the technically interested readers some details. Tubes 11: ECC85, ECH81, EF89, EBF89, EM84, ECC83, ECC83, EC92, EC92, ELL80, ELL80. Power: AC 110 – 220Volt. Dimensions: 22.1 x 7.7 x 11 inch, (562 x 195 x 280 mm). Net weight: 28 lb 10.1.7oz (13kg). A few words about me. I’m radio and television master of the “old school”. The training in Germany will be made dual. This is of great advantage. It means the trainee is formed parallel in the company and at school. The company provides practical knowledge and the school teaches the theoretical fundamentals. After three and a half years there is a final exam in theory and practice. By the master exam is possible to open his own business and young people to train. My training in the craft began in 1967 as the tube technology was at its peak. Over time I have repaired several thousand devices expertly. All offered radios are in my collection for decades. Now I reduce my collection and offering some special pieces here. I will gladly answer your questions about tube radios. Only if the radio meets my quality standards, and these are very high, then I offer it. Although great attention it is possible that the radio fails. After all, it is over fifty years old. But even in this case a solution is possible. Attached are the service manuals and schematics. The FM provides the amazing thrilling sound these radio are known for. Nevertheless, for serious listening, an external antenna will provide amazing radioreception. This is a Europaen model, FM works up to 100MHz(nearly up to 102MHz). Please note: This tube-radio has no built-in speakers. Each speaker with 5 to 8 ohm impedance and a power of 10 watts can be connected. This beauty radio with it’s lovely white furniture, dial glass must not be damaged. I will package this receiver personally to make sure it is done correctly. My packing is overkill, see the pictures and my feedback. This is a used radio from my collection and it is offered by private. Usual signs of use are not listed separately and are no cause for complaint. Your questions will be answered professionally. The free listing tool. Braun sk 55 radiogram. This particular radio-phonograph combination is in. Original vintage cosmetic condition. It has a four speed record player with 78, 45, 33, 16 rpm. The tube radio picks up lw, mw, and ukw signals (broadcast, long wave, and fm). This combination was designed by dieter rams and hans gugelot (bauhaus / ulmer schule hfg aka “ulm college of design”). The beautiful translucent plastic lid gave this combination its nickname “snow white’s coffin”. This item is made up from painted steel sheet. White color, ash veneer wooden sides and beautiful translucent acrylic lid. As already mentioned cosmetics on this unit are great, with some little signs of wear. I did not enhance the pictures using photoshop, exposure tweaks or flash etc. What you see is actual color with all small marks on it you would expect from a vintage equipment made 1961. The veneers are in excellent condition with no great areas of significant loss, marks, staining, or other forms of major damage. Steel sheet is in great condition for its age. Both felt ‘dot’ pads are present to lid. Hinges, screws and lid stay: bright and free of corrosion. Acrylic lid is without cracks, splits or markings. All graphics are complete. As mentioned paint finish is in very good condition with consistent color and with no major blemish damages. Base board is excellent with valve map fixed on inside surface. Interior is clean, no rust. Weight is approx 11.5 kg or 25.4 lb. Dimensions are approx: 58 x 24,4 x 29 cm or 22.8 x 9.6 x 11.4 inch. Built-in voltage converter for 110, 125, 150, 220 and 240 volt. All switches and knobs work well treble, bass, etc. The platter will move in all speeds, plays records fine and loud, the needle is in good condition, the radio great reception. A truly design classic by dieter rams which is in many museums permanent collections, including moma and has been featured in wallpaper magazine. You can combine this combination with original braun l1 or l11 speakers. See unit in action. Braun phonosuper-sk55 radiogram // dieter rams (1932- present). The clarity of form and minimalist design vocabulary associated with the german designer dieter rams is closely identified with the braun company. Many of his designs for domestic appliances and audio equipment feature in the permanent collections of leading museums that collect and promote design, such as the metropolitan museum of modern art, in new york, which began to collect braun products in 1958. After studying architecture at the wiesbaden academy of applied arts from 1947 to 1953 he spent three years as an apprentice cabinetmaker. This was followed by a period in architectural offices until he joined braun in 1955. Rams epitomized the clean, austere appearance associated with a functional aesthetic and with associate designer, hans gugelot. The braun range won every international design prize going. At this time he was also involved in furniture development with the designer, physicist, and entrepreneur otto zapf (born 1931). As braun’s design director (from 1960), he was responsible for establishing a cleanly stated and distinctive aesthetic for a wide range of products from kitchen appliances to alarm clocks, calculators, lighters, and electric razors. This aesthetic was also in tune with the outlook of the hochschule für gestaltung (ulmer school), a progressive design academy with links to braun that had been first established in 1954. His clearly articulated and austere “606-shelf” unit for vitsoe (1960) remained in production for more than 40 years. He has held a number of academic posts including, from 1981, a professorship in industrial design in hamburg. In 1987 he became president of the german rat-f-r-formgebung (design council), which for many years had promoted the values associated with ideas of good design. In a recent design magazine (icon), rams is quoted as saying, as designers we have a great responsibility. I believe designers should eliminate the unnecessary. That means eliminating everything that is modish because this kind of thing is only short lived. Dieter rams has received many international design awards throughout his career and his work is considered to be design classics of the highest. The item “Original Vintage BRAUN SK55 Dieter Rams Design Tube Radio Gugelot Radiogram” is in sale since Saturday, November 15, 2014.
