This vintage trophy baseball radio was found in my parents attic as we were emptying the house in preparation to rent it. Probably been up there 50+ years. Power chord is aged and cracked. I wiped the dust off with a soft dry cloth but made no real attempt to clean it. I have no idea if it turns on. Item is as the pictures show. Amazing Official League Ball Vintage Antique Old Baseball Trophy Novelty Radio

The company Trophy manufactured this unique novelty baseball radio in 1941. Many are not in good shape because of the fragile cardboard-like material that made the baseball. The radio is in remarkable, original condition. It is very clean and still has vibrant color. No pieces are missing and there are no cracks or chips in the knobs or base. It will turn on and make noise when plugged in, but does not seem to be picking up any stations. See photos for cosmetic condition. Approximately 8 inches in diameter and 10 inches tall on base. The item will be packed very well so that it will arrive in the condition described. This radio is worth a “bat” – you may never get a chance to “swing” at a ball this nice again! IS A RARE 1950s GRAIN BELT BEER LIGHTUP BASEBALL SCOREBOARD TUBE RADIO. SCORE DISPLAY DOES NOT LIGHT UP!!!!!! A VERY RARE RADIO. THE RADIO WORKS, THIS OLD TUBE TYPE RADIO PLAYS WELL WITH GOOD VOLUME AND TUNES IN STATIONS. YOU HAVE TO BE PRECISE AND TUNE IT IN. THEY ARE FOR DISPLAY AND ARE HAZARDOUS DUE TO HIGH VOLTAGE AND OLD AGE , AND ANY USE , RESTORATION OR ADJUSTMENTS ARE AT YOUR OWN RISK. Remember the light doesn’t work and it has a crack on the bottom with tape on it. Also tape on the corners of the scoreboard. I have left it as found and I will over wrap it to get it there. I will also insure it in case it is mishandled by the post office. Please see the pictures. There are 2 knobs (both turn) the power/volume knob on left and the tuning knob on the right. There are two other vents (both intact) bottom rear and bottom front. The case is made of cardboard with a paper cover glued atop the cardboard to make a baseball pattern. Inside are 5 tubes. Radio does not work. Condition: Apparently the previous owner (many years ago since the radio has been in a box since 1970) taped the front and back side together; however, the tape has “yellowed” and has the same appearance in color as the general stains and patina caused by age. I have not tried to clean the radio. Restoration to museum quality would probably be a very big endeavor for even the most advanced radio buff. The cardboard has an oval “indented area” on the backside 1 1/2 inch long and 1 inch in width. However, it does not have a hole. Even with the not perfect condition, most will agree that this radio is an eye-catcher and from the front view looks great. Thank you for looking at this most unusual radio. Excellent, 100% Original 1941 Trophy Baseball Radio In Molded Cardboard Cabinet

Make sure to check out all of my auctions after you’ve looked at this one. I’m listing an eclectic assortment of museum quality antiques and collectibles this week, and I suspect that there will be something to interest just about everybody. Here’s an excellent, complete, all-original 1941 Trophy Baseball Radio. Standing 10 high in a spherical cabinet made entirely of molded cardboard, the radio is among the most delicate of early radio collectibles, and it is also among the most desirable. For obvious reasons related to its construction, it is rarely seen in such good condition. The cabinet is finished in high gloss paper, with lithographed decorations that beautifully emulate the look and texture of a major league baseball. The base is plastic, with brass trim and a thin bottom plate. When this radio shows up for sale, (which isn’t often) at least a few of the pieces are typically missing, or are badly damaged, or have been replaced. Not so with this example, which is a major league marvel. It’s complete, it’s original throughout (right down to the power cord) and its condition is exceptionally good. All three grills are present, as is the original Trophy metal emblem on top. None of the grills are punched out, the Trophy emblem is not cracked, and the plastic base (with its original bottom cover still in place) is neither cracked nor warped. The chassis is clean and original, and the lithography is still crisp and vibrant. There are scattered moisture marks, where the cardboard has darkened, but the integrity of the cabinet is still excellent, and the integrity of the paper covering is likewise excellent. The power cord’s rubber sheathing has deteriorated, and the cord is no longer electrically safe. The cord should be replaced if you wish to power the radio up. The radio has not been powered up or otherwise tested, and no assurances are made with respect to its usability. The radio should be thoroughly checked out by a competent technician before any attempt is made to use it. This is an unrestored 75 year-old tube radio, and it will need to be electrically restored before it is put back into service. That’s about it. Rest assured it will arrive at your home in the same fine condition in which it leaves mine.
