Vintage Detrola Model 100 AM/SW Radio (1936) SPLENDID and QUITE RARE

This rare and coveted radio is just stunning with its simple beauty. With a large, well lit dial and speaker on the left side, it really has an eye catching appeal since it is so much different than other table radios of that era. Much sought after by serious collectors, this model is a real treasure. The cabinet is in excellent condition at 82 years old. The original stain was preserved. It was cleaned and rejuvenated. The trim and sides were redone with dark walnut toners, then the entire cabinet was given seven coats of clear lacquer. Finally, it was hand waxed to further bring out the beauty of the wood. The dial face is in excellent condition with crisp, clean graphics and nicely lit from two bulbs. The dial cover is original. The bakelite knobs are replacements. The grill cloth (left side) was replaced. There is a small amount of veneer missing from the top left rear edge as can be seen in the photos. With a burled wood top and contrasting sides and trim the radio just draws one’s attention to it. Felt pads were added to the bottom to protect your furniture. Electronically, the chassis was restored, cleaned and serviced, with all paper and electrolytic capacitors replaced. Tubes and resistors were replaced as needed. All controls and contacts were detail cleaned and lubricated. Wiring and other components were replaced as needed. The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception and quality of sound using an external antenna. The original “curtain burner” power cord was replaced with a new cord and plug along with a separate resistor. This stunning radio, while a showpiece, is meant to be enjoyed. It should last another 82 years if cared for. I would imagine the value will only increase during that time. It is meant to be a treat for the eyes and ears. That it is indeed. It still has the original finish on the cabinet and the photos tell the rest of the story – graceful, yet stunning in how well preserved it is. The cabinet was cleaned and given two hand rubbed coats of high quality wax to bring out the beauty of the veneers. And, to top it off, it sounds great too, with tone control for your listening preference. With six tubes, the sensitivity and reception is very good. The cabinet has absolutely no damage, though the original finish has some areas with very fine crazing that does not detract from the comeliness of this radio. It has the original knobs and dial, which still has crisp and clean numbers/graphics. The grill cloth is an older replacement that very closely resembles the original. The power cord was replaced with cloth covered modern wire, using the original Bakelite plug. The chassis has been cleaned and restored, with all paper and electrolytic capacitors replaced. Tubes, condensers and other components were replaced as needed. The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception using an external short antenna wire (provided). If you want a fine representation of a mid 1930′s cathedral radio that still has its well cared for original finish, this one’s for you. Listening to it as darkness approaches, the soft glow of the dial bring thoughts of all the stories and music this radio has broadcast. Certainly as an original piece it will receive compliments for its gracious looks as well as the quality sound. Dimensions: 16.5x13x9.5. This very rare 1937 Sky King model is a real gem of a find. With clean geometric lines and walnut cabinet, it has a great style and appeal. The green magic eye tuning tube with the “diver’s helmet” cover also adds to its desirableness. Add to that great sound from a large speaker and tone control for your listening preference, and you have quite a treat for the eyes and ears! I cannot find another like it on the internet! The cabinet is in excellent condition at 81 years old. The original stain was preserved. It was cleaned and rejuvenated. This high quality and colorful radio is rare in the excellent condition this one is. With a very shiny dark walnut Bakelite cabinet contrasted with a butterscotch grill and butter/caramel original knobs, it really pops with attention getting beauty. Built just after WWII ended, it speaks to new and good times in the USA. Having clean and crisp lines, it has a sleek look about it that seems to show confidence. The cabinet was cleaned and polished. There are no nicks, cracks or dings to the finish. The dial face has a unique lighted “V” style slide rule pointer. The chassis was restored, cleaned and serviced, with all paper/wax and electrolytic capacitors replaced. Tubes, resistors and other components were replaced as needed. The controls and contacts were detail cleaned and lubricated. The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception and quality of sound using the internal antennas. This is a very good quality six tube radio with attention to detail during the design and manufacturing process. With the restoration done, it should give another 72 years of listening and visual pleasure. What a beauty this art deco radio is. From the multi angled and inlay-ed veneers to the gold dial face and bold speaker bars, it really draws attention. But the new, strong green magic eye tube makes it even more special and makes the radio look so warm and stunning at the same time. The cabinet still has the original stain, which was cleaned and rejuvenated. The trim was done with walnut lacquer toner, then the entire cabinet was given six (6) coats of clear lacquer – just like it was originally. The dial cover, push buttons and knobs are original. The speaker grill cover and power cord are replacements. There are a (very) few dings and nicks commensurate with age as can be seen in the photos, but they are part of its character. The chassis was cleaned and serviced, with all paper and electrolytic capacitors replaced. Tubes and resistors were replaced as needed. The controls and contacts were detail cleaned and lubricated. The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception and quality of sound using the internal antenna. There is an antenna lead for attaching a longer wire antenna for shortwave reception. Not only does this 79 year old radio look fantastic, it sounds great too, with a high and low tone adjustment for your listening choice. Sitting in a quiet darkened room with the sounds and sights of this charming radio can be very relaxing. This tube radio features a sought after tuning dial that mimics the style and function of a rotary telephone dialer from older telephone sets – the teledial. This radio also features Art Deco design of the cabinet, popular of the time period and its original power cord. The wood is in excellent condition on this cabinet with no serious flaws such as splitting or warping. Despite some light minor scuffing on the edges, the veneer is in great shape! There are some light punctures in the speaker fabric. The tuning dial and knobs do function and move freely, however the teledial does slip when tuning stations. When plugged in and switched on, this radio plays intermittently with the speaker cutting in and out. It is being listed AS-IS. This item won’t last long because of its rarity, make it yours today! Many of those radios got banged up quite a bit, but this particular one is still in excellent condition at 72 years old and is quite a find! The leatherette/vinyl covering over wood is still supple with good, deep hunter green color. No damage at all. The chrome face sort of speaks for itself with the reflected images in the photos. It has the original knobs and looks almost new. I say almost, because as with most of this model, the “Aria” stencil that was between the dial face and knobs was polished away at some point. It has a new replacement back panel. The chassis has been serviced and tested with all paper and electrolytic capacitors replaced. Tubes and resistors were replaced as needed. The electrical contacts and controls were detailed cleaned and lubricated. A new power cord and plug were installed. For Shortwave, a longer antenna wire will be needed. It will make a great display and conversation piece for many decors. Now that it is electronically restored, it will last for many more years of enjoyment. This very rare Deco triple fin Majestic Radio from the 30′s is in Very Good Condition, original as found! The radio displays beautifully, the gloss brown bakelite cabinet has a subtle swirl pattern and is in excellent condition with no cracks or chips. The bullet style bakelite knobs are original and mechanically functional. Also has original bakelite back cover. 5 tubes and 1 ballast tube very clean ac/dc chassis. Radio does play with no distortion at listening volume, but a very slight hum at low volume. Approximate Overall Cabinet Dimensions: 11.25″ wide x 7.5″ high x 7 deep. Vintage Hard to Find HALSON 10 tube radio. L 110 SERIAL NUMBER: S815395. 10 TUBES WOOD CASE MEASURE 17″ X 7″ X 10 WEIGHS 11 LBS. YOU GET THE ITEM IN THE PICTURES. I FEEL LIKE I PUT A FAIR PRICE ON THE ITEM IF YOU THINK IT SHOULD BE LESS HIT THE OFFER BUTTON AND GIVE ME YOUR PRICE. Estate sale item in pre-owned good working condition with no damage to wooden case or internals no cracks with some normal wear and scratches on the case. The cord was taped by the plug overall the cord is still good but will need to be replaced. The 3 wooden knobs are in goiod condition are tight with No cxracks. The tuner operates very easy and goes thgrough all the bands. SW will probably need a bigger antenna. There is a slight humm in the background in between stations but when a station is tuned in the hum leaves. It takes about 15-20 seconds for the tubes to warm up. A really nice RARE radio. Halson was only manufactured in the 30′s. I did not see this model anywhere. I’m a Non Smoking Home/Shop… BUT I’m not ssure about the estate the items came from if it was a Non-smoking Home.. Consider my pictures as part of my description. A good faith effort has been made to give an accurate description of these items. Each have been inspected to the best of my ability.
