This very rare 1937 Sky King model is a real gem of a find. With clean geometric lines and walnut cabinet, it has a great style and appeal. The green magic eye tuning tube with the “diver’s helmet” cover also adds to its desirableness. Add to that great sound from a large speaker and tone control for your listening preference, and you have quite a treat for the eyes and ears! I cannot find another like it on the internet! The cabinet is in excellent condition at 81 years old. The original stain was preserved. It was cleaned and rejuvenated. The trim was redone with brown mahogany toners, then the entire cabinet was given six coats of clear lacquer. Finally, it was hand waxed to further bring out the beauty of the wood. The dial face is in excellent condition with crisp, clean graphics and nicely lit from two bulbs. The bakelite knobs are original. The grill cloth and dial cover are replacements. The power cord is new, using the original bakelite plug. Electronically, the chassis was restored, cleaned and serviced, with all paper and electrolytic capacitors replaced. Tubes and resistors were replaced as needed. All controls and contacts were detail cleaned and lubricated. Wiring and other components replaced as needed. The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception and quality of sound using an external antenna. This radio just radiates a bygone era of sitting and listening as evening falls, the soft glow of the dial and green magic eye soothing while being entertained for hours. With six tubes and large speaker, it really pulls in the signals and produces a rich quality sound. It is a must for a collector and a charming accent piece and certainly a conversation piece for someone with a eye for great vintage beauty and style.
