This old transceiver looks pretty good! The cabinet has a few scratches on it as well as an engraving on the top (see photos), but the faceplate looks terrific with the original plastic film still intact. It appears to be all original inside and out. We’ve briefly powered it up for about ten seconds. The tube filaments glow and the meter lamps illuminate. No further testing has been done. The first thing I’d do is change those capacitors, because when they’re this old they could go out at any time. This equipment is part of a very large silent-key estate we recently acquired, all of which has been in a storage unit for approximately 15 years. We have not done any testing beyond what is specifically mentioned above. There are a few reasons for this, but it essentially comes down to the fact that they almost always need some level of service and it’s simply not cost effective to pay our technician to spend time going through them. It may or may not need components replaced (caps, resistors, tubes, etc), controls cleaned/lubricated, alignment, and so on. Unless you are qualified and capable of working on this unit yourself, or are willing to pay a qualified individual to do the work for you, we suggest you revisit the idea of whether this is the right equipment for you.
