The RCA Victor Radiolette R-5 is an uncommon early-1930s tube radio produced during the formative years of home radio broadcasting, when compact “Radiolette” sets were marketed as affordable alternatives to full-size consoles. Manufactured by RCA Victor, one of the most influential names in American radio history, the R-5 represents an early transitional design bridging simple table radios and the more ornate cathedral models that followed shortly after. This example features a solid wood cabinet with distinctive vertical grille detailing, an arched dial window, and original analog tuning scale. The rear shows period-correct construction and wiring, with original tube layout present. Radios from this era were built to house vacuum tubes and operate on household current, though due to age, internal components typically require restoration before safe operation. Surviving examples with intact cabinetry and original RCA branding are increasingly difficult to source, particularly models produced in smaller numbers such as the Radiolette line. The Radiolette R-5 is notably scarcer than later RCA cathedral models like the Model 128, which were produced in higher quantities. Its smaller footprint, early design language, and limited surviving examples make it appealing to collectors focused on pre-1936 radios, early RCA production, or vintage radio restoration projects. Even unrestored examples are sought after for display, parts reference, or professional refurbishment.
This radio is in such good condition it looks like it was made last week – mint – pristine – highly collectible and as good as it gets. The solid plascon case is spotless – showing little wear at all and is very shiny. This is a working radio ready to play, display and enjoy – the sound is very good with no hum. It is playing as I write this. As with all my radios it is electrically sound – the tubes are strong, the capacitors have been replaced and the cord plug has been polarized. This radio has a printed circuit board (see picture #7) which will makes it durable, thus it will last much longer than other vintage radios which are hand wired and soldered. Featuring super funky 50′s styling, it has the RCA Victor name and logo on the front. It has a large a clear dial. The tuning knob and the off/on/volume switch – are both in excellent condition. The plascon case has no cracks, dents or scratches and a built-in loop antenna, the back is original – it is all original. The measurements are: 13″ across, 5″ wide and 6.5 high. Given its age and condition, this radio will give years of good service. Every vintage tube radio I sell has been thoroughly serviced – tubes tested, components checked and then the unit is lubricated and cleaned inside and out. The work performed can be seen in the pictures of the chassis and/or found in the radio description.

Super cool radio – I believe the color is “Champagne white” but it looks like a greige to me, neutral tone. Still has a shine to it, dials are in excellent condition and functioning properly, tube radio takes a few seconds to warm up as is custom, tuner feels fine. Cord is fine and functional. Case of the radio is in very good condition; minimal blemishes.
