The buttons, switches and pots have been cleaned with Deoxit. All the moving parts have been lubricated. The finish on the radio is also original and has simply been cleaned. Wood is in good condition with no missing veneer but could use wax. I wanted to represent in as found condition. Bakelite grille has one fine crack that is barely detectable. Philco (founded in 1892) was a pioneer in battery, radio, and television production. In North America, it is the Philco brand owned by Philips. In other markets, it is the Philco International brand owned by Electrolux. In the early 1920s, Philco made storage batteries, “socket power” battery eliminator units, and battery chargers. This classic and retro Transitone radio, originally introduced in 1939, is the epitome of early Mid Century Modern style and design. The USA-made tabletop photo radio features a classic dark brown bakelike “boomerang” curved body with cream grill front and round tuning knobs. The radio appears to retains all its’ original parts and components, including original power cord.
