This is a really nice transceiver. From what we can tell in the notes (there are eight pages of handwritten notes along with receipts), the unit was serviced in 2007 with many caps replaced. This radio came from some nice folks who bought a house and found this radio in the attic, along with some other Yaesu items in their packaging. It looks like someone packed up their ham station, put it up in the attic and simply forgot about it. Who knows how long ago this happened. The box has “new” written on it, but it’s clearly not new. The faceplate looks great and still have the protective film on it, but the cabinet has some small scuffs and scratches on it. Nothing serious, but it’s clearly been out of the box at some point. All controls feel good. The accessory box contains both an AC and DC power cable, some small microphone adapters, and a jumper plug. No microphone was included in the box. This unit is believed to have not been used in many years, likely decades, and with this in mind we have made no attempt to power-on this unit or test in any way. This is a beautiful piece of Heathkit equipment. The cabinet and faceplate still have their original paint, and since these have been tucked away for so long, there is practically no discoloration. They’ve maintained that unique “Heathkit green” color. Likewise, there are no chips, flakes, dings, dents, or other flaws in the finish. From what we can tell, it’s all original and unmodified. The band switch is a little stiff, but the rest of the controls feel good. This will make a collector quality piece once it receives whatever electrical attention it may need! This transceiver is in fantastic physical condition. The faceplate looks amazing, and the cabinet does as well with the exception of one spot towards the rear (see photo). This appears to be some sort of adhesive residue and may be able to be cleaned up. It includes a Shure microphone, manual (pretty beat up), and even the original receipts! The radio was acquired from a gentleman downsizing his station. The radio works, but it’s putting out low power (approximately 80 watts). Some new tubes may very well solve the problem, but it’s not impossible that there may be something else going on. This is a very nice vintage transceiver. From what we can tell, it’s all original with no modifications. Cosmetically, it looks good with little wear. The cabinet has a few scuffs here and there, but the faceplate looks terrific. The leather carrying handle is in great shape, and the digital display is bright. All in all, it looks great. It operates just as nicely, as it receives beautifully and transmits full power on all bands. The sale also includes a compatible microphone, non-Kenwood. Please realize that this is a vintage piece of equipment, and unless specifically noted above, it has not been fully restored with new components. It will inevitably need maintenance, however it’s impossible to know whether that will be next week or a few years down the road. This is a great looking piece of older ham equipment, both inside and out. It has some scuffs and scratches, but overall it looks good for it’s age. Take a look at the photos and I think you’ll agree. One of the feet is missing a small plastic piece and it appears that someone has tried gluing the foot in place, but really this is the biggest cosmetic issue. Obviously all that is easily addressed.
