This is one gorgeous radio that was dubbed the “toaster” due to the unique top and side venting in the solid walnut cabinet that reminds one of that appliance. Designed by the famed Ingraham company, it is a very desirable and collectible model. And, it sounds great too! With six tubes and an internal loop antenna, it has great reception and sensitivity. Now completely restored, it is just a wonderful treat for the eyes and ears! Some would call this the perfect table radio due to its size, sound and appearance. The cabinet is in very good condition, with a very appealing presence. It retains the original stain, which was treated to rejuvenate and nourish the wood. It was given six coats of clear lacquer, then hand polished to bring out the beautiful qualities of the wood. The classic Zenith black dial face has crisp and clear graphics and is nicely lit from the top. The dial cover and power cord are new. The knobs and back cover have been replaced. There are a few dings commensurate with age as can be seen in the photos. Electronically, the chassis was restored, cleaned and serviced, with all paper/wax and electrolytic capacitors replaced. Tubes and resistors were replaced as needed. All controls and contacts were detail cleaned and lubricated. Wiring and other components were replaced as needed. The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception and quality of sound using the internal loop antenna. I would imagine this radio was brand new when it heralded the news of the bombing of Pearl Harbor to the. Now fully restored and 78 years old, it has a lot of life to bring pleasure for years to come if well cared for. Note: Tube radios consist of a variety of vacuum tubes, capacitors, resistors and other electronic components. This radio has been disassembled, cleaned, and components tested. All non-functioning or suspect components were replaced. Vacuum tubes are similar to light bulbs in that an interior filament heats up inside the vacuum tube. When the filament burns out, the tube will need to be replaced. The tubes in this radio are in good working order. The longevity of the tube and its filaments is related to the length of time the radio is operated and the frequency of turning the radio power on and off. This is a rarer model of the very popular “toaster” radios made by Zenith and one of their few to have a renowned Ingraham cabinet. It is solid walnut and has the original finish, which is almost flawless. Unique in its design to vent heat through slats in the cabinet give it the moniker it has. The cabinet was cleaned, rejuvenated, then given 2 hand rubbed coats of quality wax to nourish it and bring out the allure of the walnut. The black dial face displays crisp graphics and has the polished Z pointer. The dial cover and grill cloth are original and in very good condition. The knobs and power cord are replacements, using the original Bakelite plug. Electronically, the chassis was restored, cleaned and serviced, with all paper and electrolytic capacitors replaced. Tubes and resistors were replaced as needed. All controls and contacts were detail cleaned and lubricated. Wiring and other components were replaced as needed. The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception and quality of sound using the internal loop antenna. This stately old radio was made in 1941, just before the US entered WWII and Zenith began making utilitarian radios for the war effort. Now since being restored, it can again grace a home for at least another 77 years.
